Cleveland

The Cavs had the Warriors on the ropes but let them regroup on Thursday night. Not only did they lose making the series tied but they looked terrible and they have to be wondering if playoff surprise Matthew Dellavedova might be turning back into a pumpkin.

I didn’t think it was physically possible but LeBron James actually showed he was human when he took a shot from Andrew Bogut, went headlong into a camera guy and got gashed. Nothing went right for Cleveland on Thursday.

The Warriors really played small in the last game and Timofey Mozgov really benefitted. However given that the Cavs were spanked it is hard to say it wasn’t an effective strategy. Dellavedova and J.R. Smith were off the mark and with the the limited lineup Cleveland has at its disposal right now Mozgov and LeBron were not enough.

If those guys are not back on track it will be hard for the Cavs to win on the road.

Golden State

Steve Kerr does not get a lot of credit as a tactician but he might have made the strategic move of the series by going small on Thursday. Golden State played its best game of the series and now returns home with a winning strategy in its hands. It was a pretty impressive turnaround given they were on the road and in danger of having the series get away from them. I never would have guessed that the move would be as effective as it was with Andre Iguodala being moved to the starting lineup and having such strong game.

Even though they went small they were not significantly outrebounded on Thursday and the Warriors committed just seven turnover those numbers plus the win likely mean you can expect more of the same Sunday. That bodes well because the only player whose performance might not be repeatable is Iggy’s.

Steph Curry was solid but not great and the same can easily be said for Klay Thompson.
