ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

The story from Game 1 had to do with something off the court, as the air-conditioning system in the AT&T center wasn’t running which made for an uncomfortable environment and gave LeBron James plenty of trouble as he battled through cramps the whole night.

James finished the game with 25 points in only 33 minutes of action, exiting the game with 3:59 remaining and not returning from then on. The Spurs held a two-point lead at that top, and the Spurs closed the game on a 16-3 run in LeBron’s absence.

The air conditioning system has been fixed, and James has said that his issues are behind him after two days of rest. The heat affected him more than it did any player, and he’ll be happy to participate in a cooler environment on Sunday.

Spurs power forward Tim Duncan did a much better job of handling the heat, scoring 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting, and adding 10 rebounds, dominating in the paint as he’s been known to do.

He recorded his 156th career postseason double-double in the game, and will tie the record held by Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson with his next double-double.

Duncan averaged 18.9 points and 12.1 rebounds in last year’s Finals, and given the Heat’s struggles up front, he appears poised for another big Finals.

The Spurs have been so good at home in the postseason, winning each of their last eight home playoff games by 15 or more points. The Heat can expect a better effort from their top player in this one, but that may not be enough to top this Spurs machine that is just humming along.

Additionally, the under was a profitable play when the teams played in San Antonio a year ago. While Game 1 played over the total, that’s often the case as teams feel each other out in the series opener. Things should tighten up when the teams meet again.

The Spurs are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 home games, while the Heat are 0-5 ATS in their last five games against Western Conference opponents.

The under is 6-1 in the Heat’s last seven games when playing on two days rest, and it is 11-5 in the Spurs’ last 16 games played after a win of more than 10 points.

The play: San Antonio -4.5, Under 198.5
