Dallas
They are healthy now and showing some depth even if it looks like this team was put together with no particular plan in mind.
The scoring is there but the defensive mindset that won them a championship a couple of seasons ago is long gone.
One of the additions I do like is shooting guard O.J Mayo.

There is no doubting his ability to put the ball in the basket and he can take some of the scoring load off of Dirk. This team has great scoring depth with 6 players averaging in double figures and they could get even better once Dirk rounds his game into shape.
To me PG Darren Collison isn’t fitting in all that well. He seems tentative but it could be because this team is old and can’t really run with him.
It is no coincidence that as their play has improved so has their ATS record too. They have covered in 8 of their last 10 and rattled off 7 straight ATS wins at one point. It seems the death sentence of the Mavs might have been premature. But since this is a hard team to figure you have to be careful in some situations.
Portland
The Trailblazers are just hanging in there in the Western Conference. They don’t really scare anybody but they are not awful either. They have not been sharp recently losing 7 of their last 10 including 6 in a row at one point. The thing they have going for them most of all is a solid home court advantage where they are winning 2 of out every 3 games.
They have to maintain that to stay in the hunt in the West. [ad-6571516]
A pleasant surprise for Portland has been the play of rookie point guard Damian Lillard. It seemed a stretch to me to draft him as high as they did but they are getting great production out of him and it hasn’t taken much away from the output of forward, LeMarcus Aldridge, one of the league’s most underrated players.
When they go to their bench the Blazers don’t get much so they need the entire lineup to contribute.
Against the number is another area where this team is in the middle of the pack at 20-22. They are just one game over .500 ATS at home and do well with short numbers – they have won their last 4 when the number was -3.5 or smaller.
If they can can get up early on Dallas than this ticket should cash.
