The New Jersey Nets play the Miami Heat on Saturday looking for its first win in five meeting as the Heat took all four games last season.

All the games were close, as the Nets lost by scores of 81-80, 87-84, and 99-89. The last game, the season closer, went into overtime, but the Heat got hot and cruised to a 9-point win, 94-86.

The teams last met on Halloween just six days ago. Miami spanked the Nets 101-78, led by LeBron’s charge. King James scored 20, had seven assists, and seemed unfazed by the booing during the pregame introductions.

The Nets have opened the season by going 2-2, which could already be considered an improvement if you remember last season where the Nets played to a dismal 12-70 record, so there’s nowhere to go but up.

Center Brook Lopez is off to a solid start, averaging 22.8 points a game thus far. Devon Harris is his assist man, leading the team with 2.8 and chipping in 18.8 points of his own. The team is not exceptional in any area of the game to have reason for optimism though, as they already stand near the bottom in points, rebounds, and assists. Combine that with allowing 96 a game and you can guess a lot of losses are on the Nets schedule.

Meanwhile, Miami has started the season strong, opening with a 4-1 record, placing them 2nd in the Southeast. The Heat has figured out opposing scorers so far, keeping their opponents to 84 points per game, which has them ranked 1st.

The team played to a 47-35 record last season, finishing third 12 games out, and expectations are high this year. Shooting guard Dwayne Wade continues to be a strong offensive force, scoring 22.4 thus far, and hitting 5-of-13 from three-point territory. Wade teams with James, the offseason acquisition that creates a scoring duo to be jealous of.

James has a strong presence so far, but has yet to really heat up. He leads the team in assists with 4.2 while netting 20.4. No doubt LeBron will up his game against the Nets, if just to show them what they missed out on in the offseason. Sunday wasn’t a spectacular showing, but the season is still young.

With a combo of Wade and James, the Nets may consider taking the day off. Two wins early in the season may have New Jersey fans excited, but reality will set in shortly. There is no one to put your money in this game other than Miami to cover the spread.
