The Atlanta Hawks kick off a five-game West Coast road trip against the Los Angeles Lakers this Tuesday night at the Staples Center. Tip-off is set for 10:30 p.m. and the game will be available on NBA League Pass.
Atlanta lost three of its last four games before the All-Star break to fall to 34-21 straight-up on the year and 25-30 against the spread. The Hawks are currently in fifth-place in the Eastern Conference; 6 ½ games in back of Boston and Miami. Last time out they lost to New York 102-90 as a two-point road underdog after beating Detroit 94-79 as a four-point road favorite on Feb.14.
Joe Johnson’s 19.6 points a game leads four players scoring in double-figures for Atlanta. Josh Smith is second with 16.7 points and Al Horford is averaging 16 points and a team-high 9.8 rebounds. The Hawks are averaging 96.8 points a game while giving up an average of 95.4.
Los Angeles will be looking to put last week quickly behind and look for fresh start against the Hawks. The Lakers dropped to 38-19 SU on the season (25-31-1 ATS) with a 109-89 loss to Charlotte last Monday as a five-point road favorite and a shocking 104-99 loss to lowly Cleveland as an 11-point road favorite this past Wednesday. They are currently in third place in the Western Conference; 8 ½ games in back of San Antonio.
Kobe Bryant, fresh off his fourth All-Star Game MVP award, will look to get LA back on track. He leads the team with 25 points and 4.8 assists per game while Pau Gasol is second in scoring with 18.8 points and averaging a team-high 10.4 rebounds a game. The Lakers are averaging 102.3 points a game and have the fifth-highest scoring differential in the league.
The Hawks are catching LA at a bad time as you would have to believe that the Lakers will be out to prove something in this game.
