2010 Price Chopper 400 Predictions – Betting Preview + Picks + Odds

Preview: This is NASCAR’s first and only stop at Kansas Speedway in 2010 for the third race of the Chase, but next year will be different: Kansas will have two Cup dates in 2011, the first in June and the second in October as the fourth Chase race.

Race: The Price Chopper 400 at Kansas Speedway
Date: Sunday, October 3, 2010
Time: 1:16 PM EST (scheduled green flag)
TV: 1:00 PM EST on ESPN

The Cup Series has only visited Kansas Speedway nine times – once a year since 2001 – producing seven different winners, with Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart the only repeat winners. The three most recent winners here are Stewart (’09), Jimmie Johnson (’08), and Greg Biffle (’07). Toyota has never been to Victory Lane at Kansas in the Cup Series.

Safe Bets:

1. Greg Biffle (8/1): Biffle won this race in 2007 and finished third in both ’08 and ’09. He qualified fifth for Sunday’s race, the second-highest starting spot among Chase contenders. Biffle’s only win this season was at Pocono in August.

2. Jeff Gordon (10/1): Gordon is still searching for that elusive first win of 2010 despite being solidly in the Chase. He won the first two Kansas races back in 2001-2002 and finished second in this race last year.

Gordon’s P3 qualifying spot is the highest among Chase drivers, with Kasey Kahne and Paul Menard starting on the front row.

Dark Horse:

1. Ryan Newman (25/1): Newman was second-fastest in Friday practice and qualified fifth for Sunday’s race. He finished second in the first two Kansas races ’01 and ’02 and won here in ’03, though in a Penske Dodge at the time.

He finished 22nd in this race last year, his only Kansas start for Stewart-Haas Racing.

Summary: Jeff Gordon and Greg Biffle have the best average finish at Kansas Speedway, followed by Jimmie Johnson, who starts 21st Sunday and won last week at Dover.

Mark Martin and Marcos Ambrose changed engines and will start at the rear of the field.
