Preview: The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has been visiting Pennsylvania’s “Tricky Triangle” racetrack since 1974, going from one to two race dates per year in 1982.The track is unique on the Cup circuit because of its triangular shape with three distinctly different corners, challenging both drivers and crew chiefs to find the best set-up to negotiate all three turns with a good handling racecar. NASCAR just visited here on June 7th and current points leader Tony Stewart came away with the win, though Carl Edwards led the most laps.

Safe Bets:
1. Jimmie Johnson (+350): Johnson swept this track in 2004 and has four straight top-10s, as well as the best average finish among drivers with more than one start (9.6). Johnson is also coming off a confidence-boosting win last weekend in the Brickyard at Indianapolis.
2. Tony Stewart (+450): As noted above, Stewart won here in June and also has a previous win with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2003. He finished second in this race last year and has seven top-10 finishes in his last eight Pocono starts.
Dark Horse:
1. Ryan Newman (+2000): Newman won this race in 2003 and finished second in the June 2007 race. This June, in his new Stewart-Haas Racing ride, Newman finished fifth. Over the last eight Pocono races (both dates) Newman is tied with Jeff Gordon for second in total points accumulated – his teammate, Tony Stewart, is first.
Summary: Tony Stewart is generally not enamored of starting a race on the pole, but Friday’s qualifying rainout puts him there, with Jimmie Johnson on the outside pole. The last time this race was won from the pole was in June by Stewart himself.

Jimmie Johson would be the easy pick here but I’m going to go with Carl Edwards at Pocono. He has raced well all season and is due for a win
