Preview: Pundits like to call Michigan a track that favors Roush-Fenway drivers, and it’s true to a point. In the past five seasons, one of every two yearly MIS races has been won by a Roush Ford. But that means every other race has been won by someone other than Roush, including Ryan Newman, Kurt Busch, Jeremy Mayfield and Kasey Kahne, all in Dodges, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. last year in a DEI Chevy, winning on fuel mileage.

Safe Bets:

1. Carl Edwards (+600): Edwards’ second-place run in Pocono last week was his best finish of the season to date and will provide some momentum heading to Michigan. He has two wins and eight top-10 finishes in nine MIS starts and leads all drivers in the average finish category with a 6.6.

2. Jeff Gordon (+750): Gordon won in Texas back in April, a track which is often compared to Michigan. He likes a track that gives drivers options like MIS does. Gordon has won twice here in the past and ranks third in average finish.

Dark Horse:

1. David Ragan (+4500): Although Ragan has never won a Cup race, Michigan has been one of his best tracks. In four starts, he finished 21st, 18th, 8th, and 3rd, and ranks in the top 5 in average finish among all drivers at 12.5.

Summary: Any driver currently in the top 10 in points could be in Victory Lane at Michigan, as most of them have either won or run quite well here.
