MLB Betting – Pujols, Cardinals Visit “Doc”, Phillies

Cards @ Phillies
Lohse vs. Halladay

People will be looking to bet on Machida vs Rua this weekend, but there will be another huge matchup on Thursday in the series finale between Philadelphia and St. Louis, a massive series that has gotten more attention for fans running onto the field and getting Tasered than for the talent on the two best rosters in the National League.

The three-time MVP of the Cardinals, Albert Pujols, will square off against Philadelphia’s Roy Halladay, the former Cy Young winner who has kept the Phillies at the top of the favorites list.

Cardinals vs Phillies odds – Thursday, May 6, 1:05 PM ET

Kyle Lohse (0-1, 5.28) looks to be sorting himself out after a rough start to the season, even though he earned a no-decision in a 6-3 win over Cincinnati at home.  Lohse allowed a run on five hits over seven strong innings, striking out eight without a single walk.  He threw an efficient 90 pitches in seven innings, looking a lot like the guy who finished 15-6 in 2008, not the one who went 6-10 last year.

The 31-year-old righthander is 2-2 in seven career starts against the Phillies, posting a decent 3.73 ERA.

Halladay (5-1, 1.47) hurled his third complete game in his sixth start of the season in a 10-0 romp over the rival New York Mets at home, tossing a three-hitter with six strikeouts and a walk.

Halladay has been everything the Phillies have hoped for and more so far, and his performances have been even getting more attention than the Flyers’ Stanley Cup odds in Philadelphia.

The 32-year-old righty has faced the Phillies just once in his career, back in 2005 in Toronto, and he went the distance by giving up a run on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks in a 4-1 victory.

MLB odds will favor the Phillies at home, where Halladay has won his first two starts, posting an ERA of 1.06 and throwing a complete game, and all eyes will be on his matchup with Pujols, who went 0-for-4 against Halladay in his lone meeting with him.

A few years have passed, and Pujols has three MVPs since then, but we’re still giving the edge to the pitcher, because seeing Halladay on film is nothing like seeing him in person.

Lohse has an ERA of 11.00 in two road starts this year, but he’s a bit familiar with Citizens Bank Park as he spent half a season in Philadelphia in 2007 before moving to St. Louis.  Still, there’s no way that you can take Lohse over Halladay, especially on the road, and even with the Cardinals’ great lineup.

The “Doc” is in on Thursday afternoon.
