Here is a look at some stats and trends worth keeping an eye on when breaking down the board this week, and in the weeks ahead.

San Diego Padres SP Robbie Erlin has a 2.64 ERA and 0.98 WHIP at Petco Park.

The Padres have been hitting the ball well of late. Through Sunday, the team won four games in a row and six of seven, including a weekend sweep of the San Francisco Giants, and a series win over the Philadelphia Phillies in which they won three of four games.

The team’s been swinging the bats with a purpose and the top part of the order, keyed by Yangervis Solarte, Alexi Amarista, Jedd Gyroko, and Yasmani Grandal, has been able to get the teams runs when needed.

On Tuesday, the team sends out Robbie Erlin to the bump to oppose Jorge de la Rosa and the Colorado Rockies.

The Rockies have had a miserable season and are just playing out their schedule.

The team enters on a six-game winning streak, but that has more to do with the venue than anything else. The team won each of those games, but prior to that, they were swept in back-to-back road series. In fact, the team is a woeful 5-34 (.128) in its last 39 road games.

The San Francisco Giants are 12-3 in their last 15 home games.

The Giants are coming off a sweep at the hands of the Padres, the only team remaining on their home schedule in the regular season.

The team still needs wins the rest of the way to both remain as one of the Wild Card team in the National League, and to earn home field in that potential Wild Card matchup.

They’ll certainly want home field for that matchup considering how well they’ve played at AT&T Park of late.

After what figures to be a tough set of games in Los Angeles in which they figure to watch the Dodgers celebrate a division title, the Giants are going to need some momentum heading into the playoffs, and that means winning games in that final series.

One worth targeting is the opener in that series in which Yusmeiro Petit opposes Andrew Cashner. Cashner has been lights out of late, but each of his last two starts has come at home. He hasn’t been the same pitcher on the road.
