ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

Philadelphia’s (24-32) pitching staff was tattooed by the Nats’ lineup, which was led by Ryan Zimmerman, who doubled twice and drove in a run as Washington cruised to its 10th win in 12 home outings against the Phillies.

The Nationals (28-28) aim to continue their supremacy over Philadelphia in the nation’s capital in game two on Wednesday.

Washington’s offense has looked good as of late, while the Phillies lack of offense has dropped them to the final spot in their division after being blanked for the seventh time in their last 27 games.

They have also dropped 10 of their last 14 overall, and things don’t seem to getting any better soon, as they face pitching ace Stephen Strasburg on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old is 4-4, with a 3.15 ERA on the season after halting a three-game winless skid with a 9-2 win over Texas on Friday, when he allowed no earned runs while fanning nine in six innings of work.

The right-hander holds a 2-1 career mark against the Phillies and despite settling for a no-decision in May, has historically done well against the Phils’, limiting them to just a .197 batting average.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia will counter with right-hander A.J. Burnett, who will attempt to keep the Nats’ contained a little better than in game one. It will be a challenge however, as the 37-year-old veteran has struggled in his last five outings, surrendering 24 runs while posting a 1-3 mark following a no-decision versus the New York Mets on Friday.

Burnett has been good against Washington however, registering a 9-3 lifetime record while winning his only start against the Nationals this season, allowing one run on three hits in six innings en route to a 7-2 victory on May 3.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Nationals

The Nats are on fire and the Phils’ offense is nowhere to be found.

Facing Strasburg isn’t going to give them a chance to turn it around either. Perhaps their best consistent offensive player’s record says it all, as second baseman Chase Utley is just 2-for-12 lifetime against Strasburg.

Take the Nats here.
