The Mets took the final two of their series against Seattle and wound up splitting their recent West Coast road trip. They are still struggling to score but seem to be able to pitch well enough to continue to play the spoiler role.

New York
Hopefully for this series they will get back the services of Curtis Granderson who has been out with an illness.
This lineup is pretty light and even though he is having a poor first season out in Queens he is a hitter who can be a long ball threat. The Mets are just 25th in homers this season.

Dillon Gee has missed some time this season but when he has been available to the Mets he has been an effective member of the staff.
This year he is posting career best numbers because he has somehow not been as hittable as in the past.
How long he can keep that up is debatable but it has been the performance of the pitching staff that has the club hovering around respectability this season.
Milwaukee
Milwaukee was terrible leading up to the All-Star break but just completed a monster sweep of the Reds to start the week.

They are still in first place and with the Mets coming to town for 4 games they have a chance to keep the good times rolling a little longer.
The Brewers are a pretty balanced club this year with no one player or pitcher having a career year. I love Jonathan Lucroy as much as the next guy but it is not like he is leading the league in homers.
This is a tough team to beat because their lineup is really long.
The Brewers may be in first place but they are not getting what they were hoping for from Matt Garza this season.
If things continue as they have he will finish the season with an ERA for the first time since his rookie campaign with the Twins. He was especially awful in his last start giving up 5ER while recording just one out against Washington.
That was a rare blowup but the results overall have been hit and miss.
I think the oddsmakers are giving Matt Garza way too much respect. Sure the Brewers are good behind him but he is basically a .500 pitcher who had moved around a lot.
The Mets are terrible on offense but this total is just too low.
They will get to Garza and the Brewers are not going to be dominated by Gee. Go with the over.
Total prediction: Over
Score prediction: Milwaukee 6 – New York 3
