Minnesota is in the midst of playing their best baseball and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

The Twins go for a 3 game sweep and try to push their winning streak to 7 when they finish off a 3 game set in the Tampa against the Rays. Minnesota followed up an 11 run outburst with a 5-3 win in game 2 of the series.

The Twins jumped into the 2nd Wild Card spot, 0.5 game ahead of Texas with their win on Wednesday.

The Rays now sit 3.0 back of the Twins in the race.

The Twins will send LH Tommy Milone to the hill who will be countered by another LH, Drew Smyly.

Both pitchers have nearly a 3.50 ERA on the season and have been extremely inconsistent with injuries and cold streaks.

Minnesota Twins

The Twins are arguably the hottest team in baseball as they have rattled off 6 straight wins and now try to sweep off fellow Wild Card contender the Tampa Bay Rays.

With their win on Wednesday, the Twins leap frogged a losing Texas Rangers club to grab a 0.5 lead on them. They now sit 4.0 games behind the Yankees for the 1st Wild Card spot.

SS Eduardo Escobar is leading the charge for the Twins as he is now 18 for 44 against Tampa Bay in his career and 8 for 19 with 5 RBI this season.

The Twins have scored have scored 42 runs during their 6 game winning streak.

The Twins will go with LH Tommy Milone, who has just 1 win over his last 6 outings.

The southpaw has been a better pitcher on the road this season as opponents are hitting just .208 on the season. Milone is 2-2 with an ERA of 6.17 in 4 career starts against Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay Rays

Unlike the Twins, the Rays are heading in the absolute opposite direction. Tampa, who tries to avoid the sweep, has struggled offensively as of late.

Wednesday they left the bases loaded on 3 separate occasions, and are hitting .236 on the season with runners in scoring position.

James Loney will try to continue his hot streak against the Twins this season on Thursday as he is hitting 5 for 9 in the series and 11 for 22 on the season.

[dfads params=’groups=63745&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]

The Rays will go with LH Drew Smyly, who picked up his first win of the season. Smyly’s starts have been extremely limited this season as he spend a majority of it on the DL.

Smyly has good career numbers against the Twins as he has gone 2-1 with an ERA of 1.84 in 14 career outings.
