MLB Weekend Series – Mets vs Red Sox odds

The Indy 500 odds and UFC 98 odds will distract many a sports bettor this weekend, but there’s also some hot baseball betting action to as interleague play arrives and features some marquee series. The Mets vs Red Sox odds feature a matchup many online betting fans figured would be a World Series preview at the beginning of the season. Both teams sit second in their divisions through Wednesday’s games, but a pile of injuries means the Mets odds could be in trouble. Let’s preview the series.

Friday, May 22, 7:10 p.m. ET: Johan Santana (5-2, 1.36) vs Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-1, 12.79)

Baseball betting lines: Mets -135, Red Sox +115

The series kicks off in style with a battle between two big arms. Before you sportsbook sharps dismiss this matchup as an automatic Santana win, stop and do your homework. Did you know Santana, amazing as he is, sports a 1-3 lifetime mark at Fenway Park with a 6.89 ERA and eight walks in 15 innings? Dice-K makes his first start since hitting the DL in mid April and should be a bit rusty, but don’t be surprised if the Red Sox surprise Santana, who is due to take one on the chin, and give him enough run support to win. Let’s have some fun and go for the upset.

Best sports odds pick: Red Sox +115

Saturday, May 23, 7:10 p.m. ET: Mike Pelfrey (4-1, 4.61) vs Josh Beckett (4-2, 5.85)

Baseball betting lines: none

4-1 despite his 4.61 ERA, Mike Pelfrey is a guy who really relies on run support for his success. Problem: two of his key offensive supporters, Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado, are out of the lineup for this weekend’s series, meaning Josh Beckett can pitch around David Wright and Carlos Beltran. Beckett loves pitching against the Mets, as his 6-2 record and 2.50 career ERA against them suggest, so he should have no problem mowing down their depleted lineup Saturday. Chalk up another one for Beantown.

Best sports odds pick: Red Sox

Sunday, May 24, 1:35 p.m. ET: Tim Redding (0-0, 3.00) vs Tim Wakefield (5-2, 3.59)

Baseball betting lines: none

It’s tough to pick a team to sweep in MLB betting, and I wanted to find a reason why the Mets will pull out a win here, but what can I say? In two trips to Fenway Park, Tim Redding has been bombed for 12 runs, eight earned, in 5.2 innings (again, he lasted 5.2 innings over two starts). More often than not, Wakefield’s knuckler has danced properly this season, so the Red Sox odds look good again at your online sports book on Sunday. Get out the broom.

Best sports odds pick: Red Sox

One reply on “Betting On The Mets + Sox?”

The Mets took two out of three in these series, showing at least for the time being they are the better team. They could still face each other way down the road in October in the World Series so this series may have some bearing on who would win.
