The Angels (75-50) lead the Athletics by two games in the American League West and will look to put some distance between them and their division rivals.

Los Angeles has been red hot as of late and are 35-27 on the road, 8-2 in their last 10 games and have won four games in a row.

As a team the Angels are hitting .260, and have gotten some much needed offensive punch from outfielder Josh Hamilton, who has recorded four RBIs in the last two games. More than in his last 17.

Meanwhile, Oakland (74-52) has hit a rough patch, and have lost eight of its last 10 games due in part to an offense that is struggling to plate runs.

Oakland will however get the benefit of playing at home where they are 41-22, but are 2-8 in their last 10 games.

They are coming off a loss in their last outing, and as a team are hitting .249. The lineup will face Hector Santiago in game one on Friday. The 26-year-old’s struggles have continued, as he has no decisions in his last three starts — all games the Angels lost.

The left-hander last faced the Athletics on June 10, but did not factor into the decision despite striking out eight in six scoreless frames.

The A’s will counter with right-hander Sonny Gray who has lost his last four starts, and was roughed up his last time out, giving up four runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings at Atlanta on Saturday. Gray picked up a win over Los Angeles on June 1, giving up three runs on seven hits and three walks in 6 2/3 innings.

In that series the A’s scored 26 runs in a three-game home sweep of Los Angeles, and have taken six of the nine meetings in 2014.
