The Angels send out Garrett Richards on Wednesday in search of a series sweep. Richards has been a very pleasant surprise for the Angels this season, establishing himself as a potential ace of the rotation come playoff time.
He’s guided the team to three consecutive victories. In his last outing, Richards lasted 7 2/3 innings allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out seven without walking a batter in a 5-4 victory over the Texas Rangers, earning his 13 victory of the season.
In his start before that, Richards opposed this very Red Sox team, and allowed three runs, one of them earned, on three hits in 6 1/3 innings of work, striking out five and walking two in a 5-4 Angels win, getting tabbed with a no decision along the way.

The Red Sox counter with Clay Buchholz, who has endured a difficult season. He’s guided the Red Sox to five consecutive losses, including a pair of starts in which he allowed seven earned runs along the way.
In his last outing, Buchholz allowed two runs on seven hits, striking out nine and walking two in a 5-3 loss to the Astros. In the start before that he lasted eight innings against the Angels, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out eight and walking two in a 5-4 loss for the Red Sox.
The Angels enter this contest with a series sweep on their minds. As the hotter team with the edge in the pitching matchup, it would be tough to imagine fading the Angels in this one, even at Fenway.
Additionally, both pitchers have been in fine form of late, and while the game will be taking place at a hitter-friendly venue, runs should come at a premium in this contest.
The Angels are 14-2 in Richards’s last 16 starts versus opponents with a losing record, while the Red Sox are 1-6 in Buchholz’s last seven home starts.
The under is 16-5 in Richards’s last 21 road starts, and it is 18-7-1 in the Red Sox’s last 26 games as an underdog.
