The Yankees slipped back into second and the here come the first place Astros.

Houston

The Astros are rolling into New York feeling pretty good about themselves after sweeping the Dodgers over the weekend. They have built a nice cushion in the AL West in the process too.

Houston has won five of six and not given up more than two runs in any of those games. They are looking as good as anybody in the AL right now.

The Astros may not be the top scoring team in the Majors but nobody hits more home runs. That should make for some exciting action over the news few days in the Bronx as Yankee Stadium can be a launching pad sometimes.

The Astros have a strong staff overall but Scott Feldman is one of the weak links. When he is on, like he has been lately he gets by on pure guile. That can work to a point but when he starts to get hit he gets hit hard which is why it is super important that he keeps his men on base to a minimum. He has been on a good run with five straight starts with less than 3ER. That might just mean he is due to get rocked.

New York

After sweeping the Twins the Yankees did not look good over the weekend dropping three of four at home to Cleveland.

Slipping into second place things are not going to get much easier with the soaring Astros in town. The Yankees are walking wounded and you have to wonder just how much longer they can sustain a high level of performance.

New York is second in scoring and third in homers but their leading source of power, Mark Teixeira, has been out with a shin injury and is unlikely to play tonight. In his stead the legend of Greg Bird has grown but really he has had just one good game with a couple of dingers. New York needs Teixeira back and their veterans to perform.

I bet you didn’t notice that Nathan Eovaldi has a record of 13-2. He has not had a loss since June 16 and the Yankees are 9-2 in his starts since then. He still does not have the most impressive peripherals but he can definitely bring the heat and does a good job of keeping the ball in the park.

Eovaldi is a perfect 5-0 at home this season.

  • NYY are 7-3 in Eovaldis last 10 home starts.
  • Under is 11-2 in the last 13 meetings.

4* MLB Betting Prediction:

There is good value with Houston tonight but I always have a hard time getting behind Feldman.

MLB Baseball Score Prediction:  New York 4 – Houston 3

This is a tough call. Eovaldi has been sharp but Houston is red hot. I might sit this one out or put a small play on New York.
