Matchup Insight | ATS MLB Preview

Probable Pitchers:
SF: Jake Peavy (R)
KC: Yordano Ventura (R)

San Francisco

It was not a shock that the Giants won the opener. They have a team filled with experienced players and any time Madison Bumgarner is on the mound it feels like it is automatic.

The opening win may have knocked the Royals off their game but the Giants are still going to have to fight to win the series.

Given what we have seen from both teams in the playoffs it seems unlikely that there will be more 7-1 finals. And where is all that San Francisco power coming from?

Jake Peavy’s regular season numbers were nothing special but in this year’s playoffs he has held up well after two starts. The truth is his overall numbers were tainted by the fact that he was terrible on Boston but fared well after coming back to the NL. Was that just a coincidence or do the lighter, DH free, lineups make the difference. If so the Giants may not be able to expect a repeat of what they have seen so far.

Kansas City

Game two will be a true test of the Royals’ resolve. You can make an argument that they never should have made it to this point after the way they got down against Oakland but here we are hoping that they have just a little more left in the tank.

Key to getting things back to even will be getting more offense. They have scored only 5 runs in their last 3 games and that makes their margin for error very slim.

Not having to face Bumgarner will make matters a lot easier.

There are few young pitchers with more potential than Yordano Ventura.

Other organizations might have looked past the flame throwing righty because of the innings he has already thrown this season but the Royals have waited so long to win they are going for it.

His numbers in the postseason haven’t been awesome but with that amazing Royals bullpen they haven’t needed to be. He can give them 18 outs.
