Texas and Oakland meet up for the 2nd time in this young season as the teams split a 4 game Opening Weekend series that saw both of them have 10 run outbreaks. Pitching on an extra day of rest, Oakland sends southpaw Scott Kazmir to the mound.

Countering him will be Colby Lewis, who isn’t receiving much run support when he takes the mound. The teams enter in 4th and 5th, respectively, in the AL West.

Oakland Athletics

The Athletics have shown signs of brilliance, as well as signs of immaturity early this season. One of their signs of brilliance has been lefty Scott Kazmir. Bob Melvin gave Kazmir an extra day of rest with Oakland’s lack of off days and he’ll get set to take on Texas for the 2nd time this season.

In his first start against the Rangers, Kazmir was outstanding going 7 innings, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 10. The Athletics cruised to a 10-0 win.

Kazmir’s other win came in his following start as he stifled the Astros in an 8-1 win. He went 6.0 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 run in the contest.

He’s certainly pitched well enough to get wins in his last two starts, but received no decisions against Kansas City and Houston going 7.1 and 7.0 innings in those starts allowing 2 runs and 0 runs.

Opponents are hitting just .158 against Kazmir this season.

On the road, Oakland is 5-5 S.U. as they average 4.00 runs a game, but allow 3.80.

Texas Rangers

The Rangers struggles have been highlighted a little bit more as they’re still searching for a series win this season. They’ve dropped 6 of 7 and come in off getting swept against Seattle, at home. They scored just 4 runs total in the series as the fans and players are becoming impatient with each other.

OF Shin Soo Choo is the main scapegoat in this problem as he’s gone 0 for his last 19. At home, Texas is scoring just 3.11 runs a game.

Taking the hill for Texas will be Colby Lewis. Lewis is just 1-2 and is getting no run support when he steps on the rubber. He’s gotten 9 runs total in 4 starts this season.

His lone win did come against Oakland in a dominating performance. Lewis went 6.0 innings, let us 3 hits and only 1 run.

In his career against Oakland, Lewis is 9-4 with a 3.15 ERA.

MLB Handicapping Trends:

  • Athletics are 38-14 in their last 52 games as a road favorite of -151 to -200.
  • Athletics are 5-2 in their last 7 during game 1 of a series.
  • Rangers are 2-5 in their last 7 during game 1 of a series.
  • Rangers are 9-23 in their last 32 games following an off day.

Free 4* MLB Pick: Oakland -152

As a team, Texas hit just .210 in April.

Oakland 4, Texas 1

The juice is high here, but the Rangers bats are just bad. With Kazmir on the mound for Oakland, that trend will continue on Friday.
