Court is in session on Monday night in Seattle as King Felix takes the hill as the Mariners try to climb back towards the .500 mark when they welcome in the New York Yankees.

Former Mariner Michael Pineda will oppose Hernandez as he looks to continue his success in the 2015 season. Both pitchers were All Stars back in 2011 when they both pitched for the Mariners. Both teams dropped 3 of 4 over the weekend and will be looking to get back on track.

The former teammates square off for the first time ever as friends Michael Pineda and Felix Hernandez battle on Monday night inside Safeco Field. The Mariners have won in all but one of King Felix’s starts and they hope that trend will continue as they are in need of a win after losing the series to Cleveland in 12 innings on Sunday. With an exhausted bullpen, they’ll need Hernandez to definitely eat some innings up.
Last time out, Hernandez threw a 4 hit complete shutout gem last time out against the Tampa Bay Rays. In his last two starts combined he’s thrown 16 innings and allowed just 1 run in 2 wins.

Mariners RF Seth Smith is currently on an 8 game hitting streak and has easily been the most consistent Mariners hitter in their lineup as of late.
Nelson Cruz struggled over the weekend, but he has a legitimate argument against that as he’s hitting .335 on the season with 18 home runs.
As for the Yankees, they continue to flirt with the .500 mark as they now sit just 1 game over following this past weekend. The Yankees dropped 3 of 4 to Oakland, including a shutout loss on Sunday afternoon. They’ll look to get back on track with their ace, Michael Pineda, on the hill.
Pineda has had success in Seattle as he started 12 games for them, posting just an ERA of 2.92.
He bounced back in a big way in his last start going 6.2 innings allowing 6 hits and just a lone run against the Royals in a 4-2 win. Pineda struck out 8 in the victory.
