For the first time in 18 years, the Milwaukee Brewers will go for a sweep of the Detroit Tigers. The Brewers and Tigers meet in the finale of a 3 game set in Detroit Wednesday night as in shocking fashion, the Tigers look to salvage a 3 game series at home. The Brewers out pitched the Tigers in Game 1 and then out slugged them in Game 2.

Now they’ll send Kyle Lohse to the rubber as he hopes to complete the sweep and send Detroit to their 4th straight loss.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers haven’t had much to hang their heads on this season. While it still is early in the season, Milwaukee sits 10 games under the .500 mark and 11.5 games off the pace in the NL Central. However, if they’re looking for a spark, a sweep of the Detroit Tigers in Detroit would be a great start. They’ll try to find that spark with Kyle Lohse on the mound.

Lohse has won 2 straight decisions, and 3 of his last 4 following an 0-3 start to the season.

He threw 107 pitches in his last start against the New York Mets as he went 8.0 shutout innings allowing just 2 hits, and striking out 8.

Prior to that, he threw just 5.0 innings allowing 7 hits and 4 runs against the Cubs. Luckily for him, his offense provided 12 runs and he received the win.

Lohse has not faced the Tigers since he was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals back in 2012. In his career he is 7-6 with a 5.65 ERA in 20 career starts.

CF Carlos Gomez looks to stay hot as he’s 5 for 10 in the series with 4 runs batted in.

Detroit Tigers

The Tigers are enduring their first real struggle of the 2015 season. After dropping the finale to the Cardinals, they have lost 2 straight to the Brewers and are looking to get back into it offensively as they’ve scored just 4 runs during their 3 game skid. On the season, Detroit has averaged 4.32 runs a game.

To play stopper, the Tigers will look to Shane Greene, who has dominated both his inter league starts this season.

His first start came back on 4/14 against the Pirates as Greene went for 8.0 innings allowing just 3 hits and 0 runs. The Tigers won the contest 2-0.

His last inter league start came on 5/15 against the Cardinals in St. Louis as he went 5.0 innings of shutout baseball. Detroit cruised to a 10-4 victory.

Kinsler and Cespedes will be game changers in the finale as they’ve both had success against Lohse.

Kinsler is 3 for 6 in his career and Cespedes brings in a 2-3 stat line with both those hits being home runs.

MLB Handicapping Trends:

  • Brewers are 4-1 in their last 5 after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game.
  • Brewers are 5-2 in their last 7 road games.
  • Tigers are 65-23 in their last 88 interleague home games.
  • Tigers are 5-2 in their last 7 games as a favorite of -151 to -200.
