Two pitchers with the two of the highest ERAs in the American League square off as the White Sox and Blue Jays meet in Canada on Monday.

Hector Noesi and Drew Hutchison bring in a combined ERA of over 11 and will look to turn things around as their teams have struggled as of late. The White Sox come in off a series loss against the Twins while Toronto looks to avenge their series loss to Seattle.

Chicago White Sox

The White Sox went from one of the hottest teams in baseball, to now looking to climb out of the cellar in the AL Central as they’ve dropped 5 of 6 against divisional opponents. They’ll head across the boarder and try to right the ship as they send right hander Hector Noesi to the mound.

Noesi returns to the rotation as he served as a bullpen pitcher for relief appearances as he gave way to rookie Carlos Rodon in the rotation. Noesi threw 3 scoreless relief appearances against the Reds, Brewers, and the Indians.

Noesi lost his first 3 starts of the season as he struggled against the Twins twice and the Indians one time. In 4 starts, Noesi brings in a combined ERA of 6.06.

The only time Noesi has faced these Blue Jays came back on August 15th when he allowed 5 runs, but received 11 runs of support and grabbed the win.

The White Sox offense has been a mess as of late and they’ve seen their average runs per game drop to just 3.59 a game.

Toronto Blue Jays

Jose Bautista has battled a shoulder injury all year and the lingering effects could have him sidelined for the series opener against Chicago. That being said, Edwin Encarnacion continues to go on his tear and has picked up the slack for Bautista. Hitting 8 home runs in the month of May, Encarnacion is making a strong case for player of the month as the month of May winds down.

While Encarnacion is carry the offense, Toronto is still struggling and it has a lot to do with their pitching staff. D

Drew Hutchison brings in a 3-1 record, but hasn’t pitched all that great as his ERA sits at 6.06. He’s benefited from an average of 7 runs of support to get him his 3 victories.

Hutchison got his first loss of the season last time out as he went 6.2 innings allowing 4 runs in a 4-3 loss.

While Toronto has dropped 11 of 15 to find themselves in the cellar of the AL East, they still sit just 4 games out of first place.

MLB Handicapping Trends:

  • White Sox are 32-81 in their last 113 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
  • White Sox are 2-8 in their last 10 vs. American League East.
  • Blue Jays are 2-5 in their last 7 vs. a team with a losing record.
  • Blue Jays are 3-9 in their last 12 overall.

Free 4* MLB Pick: Chicago +164

A lot of value sits with Chicago today. Noesi has a chip on his shoulder as he wants to be a starter and remain one.

Chicago 8, Toronto 4

A good start Monday could go a long way in helping that. Take the White Sox as they win the series opener.
