For the 2nd time this season Shelby Miller and Mike Leake will square off as the Braves meet the Reds in Cincinnati on Monday. Mike Leake got the best of Shelby Miller in their matchup as the Reds knocked off Atlanta 5-1.

Still, both pitchers continue to dominate the opposition and will look to continue that trend on Monday.

Atlanta Braves

The Braves were expecting to endure some major struggles this season, but are just kind of hanging around in the NL East. Sitting just 3 games under the .500 mark, they trail the red hot New York Mets by 6 games. All things considered, the Braves will take that coming into the middle of May.

One of the major bright spots for Atlanta has been starting pitcher, Shelby Miller. Miller brings in a 4-1 record with a phenomenal ERA of 1.66.

In his last start, the right hander threw a complete game shutout allowing just 3 hits and striking out 8 against Philadelphia.

Back on April 30th, Miller went 7.0 innings allowing 6 hits and 3 runs, with only 2 of them earned. He labored through those 7 innings as he threw a season high 112 pitches. It has been his only loss on the season.

The Braves have struggled on the road a bit this season going 6-9 S.U. They’ve averaged 4.07 runs per road contest.

Cincinnati Reds

The Reds have flirted with the .500 mark all season long and come into Monday’s contest just a game under the break-even line. They’ll look to trim into their 7 game deficit they face in the NL Central as they send the red hot Mike Leake to the mound.

Leake received 3 no decisions and a loss in his first 4 outings, but hasn’t allowed a run in his last two outings.

The right hander went 8.0 innings allowing just 2 hits and no runs in the Reds win over the Cardinals and Shelby Miller on April 30th.

He then followed up that performance with an 8.0 inning, 6 hit performance against the Pirates. The Reds went onto win the game 3-0.

Mike Leake is 4-2 in his career against the Braves in 7 starts with a 2.03 ERA.

The Reds offense struggled mightily in the final two games against the White Sox scoring just 2 and 3 runs respectively in the games.

They were a victim of a Gordon Beckham walk off single in Sunday’s rubber match.
