The Giants invade Globe Life Park in Arlington as they get set to take on the Texas Rangers in a weekend series. Texas made their splash with the addition of Cole Hamels, now it’s time to get themselves on a little bit of a run as they chase a Wild Card spot. They started that with walking off on Thursday night behind Josh Hamilton’s single. As for the Giants, they look to kick it up a notch as they sit 11 games over the .500 mark. The Giants will go with Madison Bumgarner who will be opposed by Nick Martinez.

San Francisco Giants

The Giants haven’t visited Texas since 2010. During their 2010 visit, they left with a little extra hardware. San Francisco defeated the Texas Rangers inside Globe Life Park and left holding the World Series Trophy. That began their reign of terror as they’ve been dominant in what seems to be an “every other year” trend.

Speaking of World Series, the Giants will 2014 World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner to the mound. Bumgarner is in the midst of another stellar season as he sits at 11-5 and has won his last 3 decisions. The southpaw has allowed 2 runs or less in 7 of his last 8 starts.

His lone career start against the Rangers came back in that 2010 World Series. Bumgarner threw 8 scoreless innings en route to a win against Texas.
Offensively, the Giants are averaging nearly 5 runs per road contest. With that success hitting, the Giants currently hold a 26-22 S.U. road record.

Texas Rangers

Texas is noticeably playing with a little bit of extra swagger. Since acquiring Cole Hamels, they’ve won 2 in a row, including a walk off win on Thursday night over New York. Texas currently sits 8 games back in the AL West, but just 4 games back in the Wild Card chase.

On Friday night, they’ll go with RH Nick Martinez. The RH has had more downs than ups as he brings in just a 5-6 record with an ERA of 4.08. Martinez is in the midst of an 0-4 run in his last 6 starts as he’s struggling with his command a lot.

His last 4 starts have been even worse as he has allowed 7 home runs and has an ERA of 9.14 during this stretch.

Martinez brings in a 2-2 record with an ERA of 3.89 in seven starts inside Globe Life Park.
A major sight to see for Texas has been the play of Josh Hamilton. Including his walk off single, 4 RBI, 1 HR performance in the series finale against New York, the OF has 6 runs batted in over his last 2 games. If he can continue to produce, this Texas offensive threat can be taken to a whole new level.

MLB Betting Trends:

  • Giants are 5-1 in their last 6 road games.
  • Giants are 14-3 in their last 17 overall.
  • Giants are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. American League West.
  • Rangers are 5-14 in their last 19 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game..
  • Rangers are 3-11 in Martinezs last 14 starts as a home underdog.

4* MLB Betting Prediction: San Francisco ML

The Giants are playing extremely well and have a giant edge here. Madison Bumgarner has been stellar as of late and should be able to shut down this Texas offense.

MLB Baseball Score Prediction: San Francisco 8- Texas 2

Nick Martinez gets knocked around in the series opener as the Giants roll Friday night.
