The 2015 MLB season is still very much in its infant stages, but this game could be a preview of the ALCS come October. The Angels and Royals are two of the best in the American League and are both projected to win their respective divisions.

Both teams have come out of the gate strong with five wins between them in six games.

Royals

Last year’s Royals team took most people by surprise by making a run all the way to the World Series before being downed by the San Francisco Giants. This year’s team looks like they’re out to prove that last year was no fluke as they’ve started the season 3-0 after sweeping the Chicago White Sox.

Jason Vargas will take the mound for the Royals tonight for the series opener with the Angels, which is the Royals’ first road game of the year. Vargas made 30 starts last season for KC, posting an 11-10 record and a 3.71 ERA; the 32 year old lefty is a reliable fourth man in the Royals’ rotation and has also been lights out in Anaheim with a 9-3 record and 2.86 ERA in 20 starts at Angel Stadium.

Pitching shouldn’t be a huge concern for this Royals team that has pounded the ball around early, beating up the White Sox for 21 runs in their three game series to open the season.

The big bats have been just that so far with Eric Hosmer, Lorenzo Cain and Sal Perez combining to knock in 12 runs.

Angels

The Angels will get a chance at some small redemption when they take on the team that knocked them out of last post season in the ALDS. Last year the Angels split their season series with the Royals.

LA will counter with a lefty of their own tonight, sending Hector Santiago to the mound who has not lost to the Royals in four starts, giving up just three runs over 30 innings of work.

The Angels’ bats were held pretty silent in their season opening game, but Felix Hernandez can take most of the credit for that. Since that game the Angles have found some more consistency at the plate as they start facing some pitching that isn’t world class.

The Angels knocked 10 hits around against Seattle on Wednesday and put five runs on the board.

Royals vs. Angels 4* Free Pick

I already previewed an Angels game in which the pitching match up was lefty vs. lefty and I went with the Angels. I will stick with LA in this game again as I like their right handed bats that include Mike Trout, Albert Pujols and David Freese. Runs should be on display tonight as each team sends their number four pitcher to the mound to face a pretty potent offense.

Go with the over first of all as this could be a 6-5 scoreline and take the Angels to come out victorious in their home opener.
