Free MLB Pick: Nationals vs. Mets Betting Lines & Preview

Nationals vs. Mets Pick

MLB Baseball betting action sees the Washington Nationals taking on the New York Mets Thursday April 30th at Citi Field in Flushing, NY. Cappers Picks provides free MLB Baseball handicapping tips all season long.

Despite losing its most recent series to the young Miami Marlins, New York’s “other team” is off to a brilliant start in the NL East – the Mets have compiled a 15-7 mark to start the year.

MLB Predictions

Washington vs. New York
Date/Time: Thursday, April 30 2015, 7:10 pm EST
Venue: Citi Field, Flushing NY
Washington -105, New York -115
Over/Under: 7
Pitching Match-up: Stephen Strasburg (1-2, 4.88 ERA) vs. Jacob deGrom (2-2, 2.96 ERA)

The Nats, meanwhile, are supposed to be far and away the league’s best ballclub, although they’ve gotten off to a 9-13 record in the young 2015 regular season.

To be fair, DC has dealt with some key injuries to start the year, especially to wonderful 2B/3B Anthony Rendon, who is still on the 15-day disabled list.

Despite Washington being forecasted to have a near legendary pitching staff, there have been some pitching hiccups early; the Nationals are trying to slug their way out of it.

The home team has found success with excellent pitching at the hands of “The Dark Knight” Matt Harvey, who’s had a seamless return from Tommy John surgery, as well as last year’s NL Rookie of the Year and tonight’s starter, Jacob deGrom.

The ageless and portly veteran Bartolo Colon keeps getting the job done too, although he is over forty and resembling a vintage John Daly.

In addition to magic on the mound, the Mets’ bats have been working in the early going. First baseman Lucas Duda appears to be emerging as a star, and though the offseason acquisition of OF Michael Cuddyer was widely panned, he’s been hitting well thus far.

Throw in the Spiderman-like defense of OF Juan Lagares, and the Mets might just have something if they can avoid the injury bug.

Still, you have to think the Nationals are going to get it figured out. They are too talented and too deep not to emerge as the pennant winners this year. Right?

Though he’s compiled an ERA hovering near five so far, Stephen Strasburg is one of the centerpieces of Washington’s deep pitching rotation. His career ERA of 3.09 and WHIP of 1.11 proves that the 26-year old has the stuff and the control to be dominant.

On Thursday night in Queens, the home team Mets hope that Strasburg has one further early-season letdown.

The hitting is not yet dialled in for the Nationals. First baseman Ryan Zimmerman, SS Ian Desmond and OF Jayson Werth are all scuffling, and the trio should be vital to Washington’s offense.

Throw in the injury to Rendon, and the lineup isn’t close to resembling what it can beInline image 1.

New York 5, Washington 4

All that being said, I like deGrom to have another strong outing tonight at Citi Field, and therefore the Mets will bump their win total to 16 on the ledger.
