It has been a very disappointing start to the year for the Nationals, who had been tabbed as the runaway favorite in the N.L. East, while the Braves look to pull off the sweep in what’s been characterized as a rebuilding year for the team.

Alex Wood will toe the rubber for the Braves as they look for the sweep. He got a tough-luck no-decision in his last outing. After shutting out the Philadelphia Phillies for 5 2/3 innings, Wood left the game in the sixth and the Braves went on to lose 1-0.

He’ll hope for a better outcome against the Nationals on Wednesday. In six career starts against Washington, Wood has posted a 1.49 ERA and 1.10 WHIP, guiding the Braves to a 5-1 record in those contests.

As for Jordan Zimmermann, he’s given up two earned runs or fewer in three of his four starts, but he allowed seven earned runs in an outing at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox which has his base numbers looking rather pedestrian.

Zimmermann posted a 2.50 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in three starts against the Braves last season, with the Nationals going 1-2 in those contests.

FREE Nationals vs. Braves Pick:

The clock’s ticking on bettors looking to fade this struggling Nationals team at an attractive price. They enter this game as the favorite despite a seven-game losing streak and showing no signs of a turnaround whatsoever.

Additionally, both pitchers have shown an ability to control the opposing team’s lineup. While Zimmermann has the one bad game skewing his stats, he’s been solid in his other outings, and has plenty of success against the Braves in his career.

Meanwhile, Wood remains one of the more underappreciated pitching commodities in the game today.

MLB Betting Trends:

The Nationals are 0-7 in their last seven games overall, and 0-5 in their last five games against N.L. East opponents.

The Braves are 6-2 in their last eight games played on a Wednesday, and they are 12-4 in their last last 16 home games against the Nationals.

The Braves are 4-0 in Wood’s last four home starts against the Nationals, and 5-1 in Wood’s last six starts against the Nationals overall.

The under is 6-1 in Zimmermann’s last seven starts as a favorite, and it is 10-2-1 in Wood’s last 13 starts in the third game of a series.

The under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings between these teams in Atlanta, and it is 5-1 in Wood’s last six starts against the Nationals.
