The Royals leapforgged over the Minnosta Twins to take over the number one spot atop the American League Central, with a 2-0 win on Tuesday night in the Twin Cities.

Kansas City will look to extend their winning streak to four with its first three-game sweep in two months when they play the Twins on Wednesday night in the series finale.

Despite an anemic offense the Royals have managed to avoid a major slide in the AL Central division standings, with some strong outings from their starting rotation.

In its past two games, Kansas City has limited the Twins to one just one run.

That’s made up for a batting order that has in turn only scored three or more runs in just three games in the past 15 outings.

Salvador Perez, is the Royals lone exception, and is 6-for-15 with the three homers and a double during a four-game hitting streak, including a solo blast in Tuesday night’s win.

Meanwhile, Minnesota’s offense has all but totally disappeared during its 1-4 homestand, managing only five runs over the past four games.

The Royals will hand the ball to righty Edinson Volquez on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old gave up four runs on six hits over 5.1 innings in a loss to the Rangers on Friday night, but did strike out six. It wasn’t Volquez’s best outing.

He will hope to reestablish himself against the Twins, a team he is 1-1 against in two career starts with an ERA of 2.45.

Minnesota will counter with Kyle Gibson, who pitched fairly well is last time out, despite giving up five runs, including three homers over seven innings in a no-decision against the Brewers on Friday.

The right-hander did however, post a career-high nine strikeouts.

The 27-year-old is much better at home (2.35 ERA) than he is on the road (3.82 ERA) this season, and has surrendered just one run on 6 2/3 innings in a win, and four runs in a five inning loss to the Royals over his career.

Matt’s Free 4* Prediction

Royals — KC is on a roll, and even though they have not been explosive offensively as of late, the pitching has been superb. And against a Twins’ team that has been equally struggling at the plate, I got to go with the Royals in this one.
