The Royals got beat up by the Jays over the weekend but they are still in a great spot. Looks like their rivalry with Detroit could be fading.

Kansas City

After a day off to process an intense series up in Toronto the Royals were off to Detroit. Like a true champ they rallied after a 3-1 series loss, including a bench clearing incident to beat Detroit 5-1 in the first game of the series. Unfortunately the Tigers are no longer a threat.

The Royals ability to bounce back is one of their most important attributes. They just don’t seem to ever go into a funk.

This team definitely seems ready to defend their American League title in the playoffs.

Johnny Cueto will be making his second start for the Royals since coming over from the Reds. In his first he was just OK against a strong Toronto lineup. This time instead of facing a team that is jacked up he will be facing a Tigers squad that got rid of as much as they could at the deadline. I still think he is going to find the AL challenging but this is an easier gig.

Detroit

The Tigers are definitely spent for this season, dealing everyone they could in the hopes that they can retool as quickly as possible. They still have a pretty decent lineup with the likes of Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez and the ever surprising J.D. Martinez.

The big question for this team is whether they have an ace going forward. Justin Verlander is showing some signs of returning to form but I am not quite sold yet. If he is and one of the young guys emerges they can be in the hunt next season.

The Tigers will be looking to show off one of their new prizes in lefty Matt Boyd. He made a couple of starts for Toronto earlier this season and showed he might have a little something but only time will tell.

The prize of the David Price deal is supposed to be Daniel Norris but Boyd’s track record in the minors is just about as good. Look him up on Baseball Reference and you will be impressed. Now he has to start showing it at the Major League level.

This is his chance.

MLB Betting Trends:

  • KC are 6-2 in their last 8 Wed. games.
  • Over is 6-1-1 in DET last 8 Wed. games.

  • Over is 35-14-3 in DET last 52 overall.
  • Under is 11-5 in the last 16 meetings.

4* MLB Betting Prediction:

You have to go with the Royals here. There is not a ton of value but they are the play.

MLB Baseball Score Prediction: Kansas City 5 – Detroit 3

You can take a pass on KC if you don’t like the payoff but it is hard to make a case for the Tigers even at home.
