Houston

Including last night’s loss in the series opener the Astros has lost five in a row.

Thanks to the mediocrity of the AL West they are still in first by a couple of game but you have to wonder if they are on path down to where many thought they would be. The answer is probably yes and no.

I don’t think this is a first place club but they are a respectable one thanks to a starting rotation and bullpen that is more reliable than it has been in some time. Their ace goes tonight.

That would be lefty Dallas Keuchel. He may have lost his last start but he has been among the best pitchers in the AL this season.

In nine of twelve starts this season he has allowed 2ER or fewer including five where he has pitched at least six innings and not given up a run. He is more efficient than dominant but the last time he faced the White Sox he owned them with a complete game shutout including 11 strikeouts, a season high.

Chicago

The White Sox took game one last night and look to take their second series against Houston in the last couple of weeks. This team is still playing well below expectations to me and has to do a lot of work if they are going to compete in the AL Central, even with Detroit sliding. It is still a big shock that they can not put more runs on the board. They may have a big hole at second base but the rest of the lineup should be able to score a lot more…or else they have no chance.

Carlos Rodon came up to the Majors with Chris Sale like hype but we have yet to see it. His numbers are strong for a young rookie but he is walking too many guys and that will get any pitcher into trouble.

It is encouraging that his best start in the Bigs was his most recent one with 10Ks against Texas and he was solid while earning a no decision against the Astros last week.

MLB Betting Trends:

  • Under is 8-2-1 in HOU last 11 games as a favorite.
  • HOU are 14-3 in Keuchels last 17 starts.
  • HOU are 14-3 in Keuchels last 17 starts on grass.
  • Under is 6-2 in CHW last 8 Tue. games.
  • Under is 8-3 in CHW last 11 home games.
  • CHW are 3-7 in their last 10 games as an underdog.

MLB Betting Prediction:  Chicago +108

I don’t usually call for a low scoring pitcher’s duel but figure why not here.

MLB Score Prediction:  Chicago 3 – Houston 2

I like the home team in an underdog role. Rodon can attack the lineup again. There are tons of swing and miss guys for him to take advantage of.
