The Braves (74-69) lead league with 100 quality starts despite losing two of its best starters to season-ending injuries in spring training, and currently trail the Pittsburgh Pirates by 1 1/2 games for the second NL wild card spot.
However, the offense has struggled. Atlanta plated just a single run in Monday night’s series opener coming by way of Freddie Freeman.

The Braves have scored one run or fewer in six of their past nine games.
Washington (80-61) in the meantime, moved closer to grabbing the National League East title, and extended their division lead over the Braves to eight games with Monday’s 2-1 victory.
The Nats got key hits from first baseman Adam LaRoche, who is 7-for-16 in his past five games, collecting two hits Monday, and need just 12 more wins to clinch the division title.

They will keep their streak alive by sending right-hander Jordan Zimmermann to the mound on Tuesday. Zimmerman went 4-0 with a 2.21 ERA in six starts last month, and is 0-1 in two starts against the Braves in 2014.
He has allowed only 18 earned runs with seven walks in his past nine outings, and posted a no-decision against the Los Angeles Dodgers for his only start in September.
The Braves will counter with Ervin Santana who beat Philadelphia on Wednesday.
The right-hander has made two starts against Washington this season, going 1-1 with a 5.25 ERA, and is 9-2 with a 3.06 ERA in 13 starts since the end of June.
The Nats are playing well right now, and are even better at home, going 13-3 in their last 16 home games.
They are also 53-23 in Zimmerman’s last 76 starts, while the Braves are 12-6 in their last 18 games in Washington.
