The Braves’ (25-25) Freddie Freeman homered for the second straight game as Atlanta, who were without outfielder Cameron Maybin, handed Arizona its second straight loss.

Freeman also drove in a run with a sixth-inning single while Andrelton Simmons extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Meanwhile, Arizona (23-26) struggled at the plate, scoring their only run in the bottom of the fifth. The D-backs quote possibly were hung over from their 17-inning loss at Milwaukee on Sunday

The Braves could return Maybin on Tuesday while the Diamondbacks are still without their outfielder David Peralta, who was not in Monday’s starting lineup after being hit on the hand on Sunday.

Atlanta will hand the ball to Shelby Miller who had his four game winning streak snapped with a loss on Thursday against the Giants.

The right-hander allowed just one run and five hits over seven innings versus San Francisco, with the lone score coming on a solo homer in the seventh.

The homer was the first home run Miller allowed since April 30. The 24-year-old lowered his ERA to 1.48, tied for first in the National League.

The Diamondbacks will counter with Josh Collmenter who is coming off a 3-4 loss to St. Louis on Wednesday. The right-hander gave up two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three through five innings and 102 pitches.

The 29-year-old has had a mediocre season with some flashes of greatness and then some big disappointments, like during his start against the Nationals when he gave up nine runs in 1.1 innings.

He did however, post a complete game shutout against the Giants in April.

The Braves have been good offensively as of late, and with Miller’s recent play.
