The Cubs (11-20) are not having a good season thus far, and scored only two runs over 21 innings in the first two games against the White Sox, who they beat handily last season, outscoring them 32-8.

The White Sox beat the Cubs for the second straight night on Tuesday, 5-1, as Gordon Beckham matched a career high with four hits, including the go-ahead home run leading off the eighth inning.

That win pushed the White Sox to a season-high three straight victories, while the Cubs have dropped three in a row.

The White Sox (17-17) will aim to keep their streak alive by sending John Danks to the mound on Wednesday. The southpaw however hasn’t always down well at home, posting a 30-40 record with a 4.37 ERA in 93 career starts.

Danks began the season with four straight quality starts, but has turned in some subpar performance as of late, struggling through five innings his last time out, surrendering eight runs and 10 hits in a 12-5 loss at Cleveland. He is 3-2 with a 3.06 ERA in six starts against the Cubs, whom he lost to last season.

The White Sox will counter with 27-year-old Travis Wood, who has registered quality, starts in four of his six outings, winning two of his last three starts.

The lefty did well in his last outing versus the Cardinals on Friday, surrendering just two earned runs on six hits scattered over seven innings. He is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in two career starts against the White Sox.

Notes

1. White Sox relievers have allowed only two earned runs in 34 2/3 innings over the last 10 games and surrendered just three hits in nine frames in the series.
2. The Cubs are 0-12 when scoring two or fewer runs.
3. Cubs RHP Pedro Strop was tagged for three runs in one-third of an inning Tuesday before leaving with a groin injury. He will undergo an MRI on Wednesday.

Matt’s Free Prediction: OVER

The White Sox definitely have the momentum, the offense and pitching advantage heading into this one.

Nevertheless, Danks home record and last performance could spell trouble for the home team, which I expect to eke out the win a slugfest.
