The Ladies Classic- Friday November 5th Post Time: 7:30 P.M. (EST)

The Ladies Classic is a Weight for Age race open to Thoroughbred fillies and mares age 3 and up. It is contested on a dirt track at a distance of 1 1/8 mile with a total prize purse of $2,000,000. There are three automatic bids awarded from wins in a designated Challenge Race for this division and the rest of the field is determined by total points earned over the course of the racing season. The following is a look at a few of the favorites that are expected to run this race.

Blind Luck

Listed as the early odds-on-favorite for the Ladies Classic, this filly has already won five graded stakes races this season. She started the year with a win in the grade I $250,000 Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita. She followed that up with a win in the grade I $500,000 Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs. Her most recent victory was in the grade I $500,000 BetFair TVG Alabama Stakes at Saratoga on Aug.21.

Malibu Prayer

She earned an automatic “Win and You’re In” entry into the Ladies Classic with a victory in the grade I $250,000 Ruffian Invitational Handicap at Saratoga on August 1. Ridden by jockey John Velazquez, she ran to the lead out of the gate and held off 3-5 favorite Unrivaled Belle down the stretch to win by a comfortable 1 ¾ lengths. Last time out, Malibu Prayer finished second in the grade II $300,000 Molly Pitcher Stakes at Monmouth Park.

Harve de Grace

This filly enhanced her position for the Ladies Classic by finally besting the favorite, Blind Luck in the grade II $750,000 Fitz Dixon Cotillion at Parx Racing on Oct. 2.This victory came after two close second place finishes to the same horse in the Kentucky Oaks and the Alabama Stakes. All three races required a photo finish to determine the winner so expect another close battle between these two should trainer Tony Dutrow decide to run her in this race.

Life At Ten

With seven victories in 11 career starts, this filly is another quality contender for the Ladies Classic. Her first graded stakes win in 2010 was in the grade III $200,000 Sixty Sails Handicap at Hawthorne. She went on to win the grade II $750,000 Delaware Handicap by three lengths over Miss Singhsix which earned her a spot in the Ladies Classic. Life at Ten’s most recent victory was in the grade I $350,000 Beldame Stakes at Belmont Park on Oct. 2.

I have to go with Blind Luck who has already won five graded stakes races this season. In her last workout at Hollywood Park she went 5f in 1:00 flat. That’s going to be hard to beat.
