2009 Breeders Cup Race Preview – The Juvenile

The 2009 Breeders’ Cup will be run on November 6th and 7th from Santa Anita Racetrack in Arcadia, Ca. This year’s Cup features 14 races over the two day period with 6 races scheduled for Friday and 8 races slated to run on Saturday.

Here is a preview of the fourth race on Saturday’s schedule:

The Juvenile

What are you waiting for? Bet NOW! The Juvenile is open to Thoroughbred colts and geldings age 2 and up. It is contested on a dirt track at a distance of 1 1/16 mile with a total prize purse of $2,000,000. There are three automatic bids awarded from wins in a designated Challenge Race for this division and the rest of the field is determined by total points earned over the course of the racing season.

The current favorites for this race are as follows:

  1. Homeboykris: He earned his automatic bid for the Juvenile with a win in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes at Belmont. In July he won a Maiden Special Weight race at Calder.
  2. Lookin At Lucky: With a win in the Grade 1 Norfolk Stakes at Santa Anita he secured an automatic spot in this race. He has three other victories this season including a win in the Del Mar Futurity at Del Mar in September.
  3. Noble’s Promise: In October he won the Grade 1 Dixiana Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland to earn a bid. He also won the Fitz Dixon Jr. Memorial Juvenile Stakes at Presque Isle Downs.
  4. D’Funnybone: He is the current point’s leader in the Juvenile Division. He has won three out of four starts this season including the Futurity Stakes at Belmont and 10 length victory in the Saratoga Special Stakes.
  5. Dublin: His biggest win this season was in the Three Chimneys Hopefuls Stakes at Saratoga. He followed that up with a disappointing 5th place finish in the Champagne Stakes at Belmont in October.

Place– D’Funnybone

Show– Homeboykris
