NFL Matchups – Week 7

The 2010 NFL season is six weeks old and we are still waiting for some teams to separate themselves from the pack especially in the NFC where every team has at least two losses. New York, New England, and Pittsburgh appear to be headed in that direction in the AFC as they all have just one loss heading into this week’s action.

Sunday, Oct. 24

1:00 P.M. Cincinnati at Atlanta (-3.5)
Over/Under: 42.5

Cincinnati comes off its bye with DE Antwon Odom hit with an immediate four game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Atlanta’s eight ranked rushing offense was held to 65 yards rushing by Philadelphia’ 22nd ranked rushing defense in its 31-17 loss to the Eagles.

Buffalo at Baltimore (-13)
Over/Under: 37.5

Buffalo owner Ralph Wilson already seems resigned to getting the No. 1 pick in next draft so he can try and select his new franchise quarterback. Baltimore RB Ray Rice, who is still nursing a knee injury, managed to gain 88 yards in the Ravens 23-20 loss to the Patriots, but still is not 100 percent.

San Francisco (-3) at Carolina
Over/Under: 34.5

San Francisco first win of the season against five losses leaves the 49ers just 2 ½ games out of first in the NFC West. Carolina will go with QB Matt Moore in this game, deciding to send rookie Jimmy Clausen back to the bench.

Washington at Chicago (-3)
Over/Under: 40

Washington’s second year RB Ryan Torain has made the most of Clinton Portis’s groin injury by rushing for 100 yards in the Redskins 27-24 loss to the Colts. Chicago QB Jay Cutler was sacked another six times in the Bears 23-20 loss to Seattle bring the total to 23 on the year.

Pittsburgh (-3) at Miami
Over/Under: 40

Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger looked to be in mid-season form in his first start this season, throwing for 257 yards and three TD’s in the Steelers 28-10 win over the Browns. Miami QB Chad Henne completed less than 60 percent of his passes in the Dolphins 23-20 OT win over the Packers.

Philadelphia at Tennessee (-3)
Over/Under: 44

It looks like Philadelphia QB Kevin Kolb will once again get the start this Sunday. Last week in the Eagles 31-17 win over Atlanta he completed 23-0f-29 attempts for 326 yards and three TD’s. Tennessee QB Vince Young should be ready to go after leaving Monday night’s game with a mild sprain in his knee.

St. Louis at Tampa Bay (-2.5)
Over/Under: 38

St. Louis’s stunning 20-17 win over San Diego gave the Ram’s their third win at home this year after winning just two games there over the past three seasons. Tampa Bay’s defense gave up close to 500 yards of total offense in its 31-6 loss to New Orleans this past Sunday.

Cleveland at New Orleans (-13.5)
Over/Under: 43

Cleveland rookie QB Colt McCoy completed 23-of-33 attempts for 281 yards and one TD in his NFL debut against the Steelers last week. New Orleans rookie RB Chris Ivory ran for 158 yards on 15 carries in the Saints win over Tampa last Sunday.

Jacksonville at Kansas City (-4.5)
Over/Under: 43.5

Jacksonville needs to regroup after being held to just three points in a 30-3 loss to the Titans and it may have to do it with Trent Edwards at quarterback if David Garrard cannot go. Kansas City QB Matt Cassel, who has come under fire recently, completed close to 70 percent of his passes in the Chiefs loss to Houston.

4:05 P.M. Arizona at Seattle (-5.5)
Over/Under: 40.5

Arizona comes off its bye at 3-2 and tied with the Seahawks atop the NFC West despite having the league’s 31st ranked offense and 27th ranked defense. Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck, who is in his 12th year NFL season, has completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 1056 yards and five TD’s.

New England at San Diego (-3)
Over/Under: 48

New England’s 30th ranked defense showed definite signs of improvement in last week’s 23-20 win over Baltimore, especially against the run. San Diego’s best player on offense; TE Antonio Gates remains questionable for this game with an ankle injury he sustained in the Chargers 20-17 loss to St. Louis.

Oakland at Denver (-6.5)
Over/Under: 42.5

Oakland may go to backup QB Kyle Boller in this game if Bruce Gradkowski’s shoulder keeps him on the sideline. Denver QB Kyle Orton threw for less than 300 yards last week for only the second time in his first six starts this year.

8:20 P.M. Minnesota at Green Bay (-3)
Over/Under: 44.5

WR Randy Moss has nine receptions for 136 yards and one TD in his first two games with Minnesota. Green Bay has decided to put TE Jermichael Finley on injured reserve for the year after he underwent surgery to repair his right knee.

Monday, Oct. 25

8:30 P.M. N.Y. Giants at Dallas (-3)
Over/Under: 44.5

New York’s defense has given up 33 points in the Giants last three games after giving up 88 points in their first three. Dallas’s offense is averaging 20.4 points per game, ranking it 16th in the league, while its defense is giving up an average of 22.2 points per game ranking it 21st.

Bye Week: Detroit, Indianapolis, N.Y. Jets, Houston
