Miami vs. Cincinnati: Week 8 NFL Lines & Spread Prediction

Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2010 NFL Week 8 clash between the Miami Dolphins vs. Cincinnati Bengals…

Sunday NFL Betting – Dolphins Aim To Get Back On Track On The Road

Whether or not one believes the Miami Dolphins were ripped off in last week’s loss to the Steelers, one single fact remains. Miami is 3-3 in a division where the top two teams (New England and New York) are 5-1. Miami can ill afford to lose any more winnable games, something that has been their forte in 2010.

Another forte has been their inability to score points. Thanks to Cleveland’s offensive outburst versus New Orleans, the Dolphins are the only team in the AFC yet to score 30 points in a game. The Bengals are coming off a Jekyll/Hyde effort against Atlanta. Cincinnati scored only three points in the first half against the Falcons, then followed it up with a 29 point effort in the second half. They eventually lost, but if they can figure out how to turn that second half performance into an entire game, they can be a dangerous team.

How Can New Miami Win?

Despite a bunch of mental lapses against Atlanta, the Cincinnati pass defense is still a very dangerous part of the defensive unit. That means Miami will most likely have to rely on the run to win this game, something they couldn’t do last week against the Steelers.

Granted, Pittsburgh’s rush defense is far superior than Cincinnati’s, meaning there shouldn’t be any excuses. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams were just awful versus Pittsburgh, putting up futile numbers that won’t win anyone any games. The duo will have to get back to elite status if the Dolphins want to get their record back to a winning one.

How Can Cincinnati Win?

This is where Carson Palmer and his egotistical duo of receivers will have to shine. The Dolphins rush defense is one of the better ones in the league and the Bengals don’t have the rushing attack to challenge them. However, they showed in the second half of last week’s loss that they can still throw the ball, something they’ll have to duplicate this week. The Dolphins pass defense was picked apart by Ben Roethlisberger as he threw for more than 300 yards. Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco want to prove they’re still two of the best in the league. They should be able to prove their point pretty well against a struggling Miami secondary including Jason Allen, who has been abused all season long. If they struggle, the Bengals won’t be able to come away with a win and the questions concerning the legitimacy of those two receivers will justifiably continue.

Outlook

The Dolphins are 3-0 on the road this year, proof they play better when not pressured by the confines of their own stadium. OK, maybe that’s not true, but it’s an interesting stat for a Dolphins team that’s very hard to pin down. The general feel is that they’re a better team than the Bengals. As good as Cincinnati looked in the second half against Atlanta, they looked even worse in the first half. The Dolphins were screwed out of a victory against Pittsburgh; they’ll be out for revenge.

Pick: Miami +2.5
