College basketball betting players know that when it comes to rivalry games, records are thrown out the window, so North Carolina’s six-game lead over North Carolina State shouldn’t be a big deal as the two prepare to square off in Raleigh on Wednesday night in a big ACC contest.

The Tar Heels (20-6, 10-2) struggled mightily shooting the rock, but their defense came through in a 48-46 win at home over Boston College. North Carolina scored their fewest amount of points under coach Roy Williams and hit just 36.8% from the field, but they held Boston College to 26.9% and outrebounded the Eagles 39-25.

The inside duo of Tyler Zeller and John Henson combined for 22 points and 21 boards, while freshmen Harrison Barnes and Kendall Marshall added 10 points apiece for the Tar Heels, and you should receive a sports betting bonus if you figured the Tar Heels would win while scoring less than 50 points, but North Carolina found a way to win and they’re turning into a team that no one wants to see in the NCAA Tournament.

The Wolfpack (14-12, 4-8) had a two-game winning streak snapped with an 87-80 loss at Maryland, allowing the Terrapins to shot 58.9% from the floor. Tracy Smith led the way with 19 points, while C.J. Leslie added 18 points and eight boards for the Wolfpack, who are out of the NCAA Tournament running unless they can manage to win the ACC Tournament, and they may even be fighting for their NIT lives after beginning the season with high expectations.

It’s been a tough season in Raleigh, especially with North Carolina rolling like they are.

However, regardless of records, this should be well worth the price per head for ticket buyers as the Tar Heels should be favored on the road. North Carolina is 4-1 SU and ATS in their last five trips to Raleigh, and they’re 6-3 ATS on the road this season, but the Wolfpack are a decent 6-4 ATS at home and they would love to avenge a 20-point thrashing in Chapel Hill on January 29th.

The Wolfpack should have been able to hang with the Tar Heels, especially in the post where Smith and Leslie can bang with Zeller and Henson, but North Carolina held a 15-rebound edge on the glass. They will be able to play better in front of their fans, but the x-factor is Barnes, who had a tough shooting day against Boston College, but he added nine boards and is learning to do other things when he’s not scoring.

We’re taking North Carolina to pull out the road victory in your sports betting book.

Poolside Rants hails from beautiful Bozeman Montana by way of Toronto, Canada. (Blame his wife for the move). He’s a Dallas Cowboys football honk. But please….don’t hold that against him. The man knows his sports and has uncanny knowledge when it comes to picking games.
