Wimbledon 2009: Tennis Betting Odds | Picks

Tennis betting and handicapping experts at Capperspicks.com break down the top men’s and women’s sports picks for Wimbledon online gambling 2009…

Wimbledon Predictions/Picks

The wait for Wimbledon betting is almost over.

The tourney starts Monday, the retractable roof is all set – now we just need Rafael Nadal to confirm his status so the books can get their lines back up.

Let’s break down the top men’s and women’s sports picks for Wimbledon.

MEN (with most recent lines in brackets)

Roger Federer (+119)

With Nadal not at 100 per cent, Federer is by far the top favorite to win this week. His French Open win tied him with Pete Sampras for the all-time lead in Grand Slam titles at 14. One victory away from immortality, he’ll be nice and hungry, so you have to like his Wimbledon odds.

Andy Murray (+407)

All eyes are on the Brit this week after he ended a 71-year drought at the Queen’s Club last week. Local fans are hoping lightning strikes twice, as a win would make Murray the first “home” champ since 1936. He’s certainly playing well enough to contend right now.

Rafael Nadal (OUT)

We waited for him to play his two practice matches on Thursday and Friday – both losses – to determine his status for Wimbledon, and….in the end, he won’t defend his title. Reportedly, he showed no obvious signs of pain and had a bit of burst, so there’s was reason for optimism, but the nagging pain was too much, so he’ll sit this year’s tournament out.

Novak Djokovic (+1000)

Does he have the best shot of toppling Feder? He’s beaten him twice this year and he also gave Nadal a serious run. However, Andy Murray crushed him, so it could be a matter of luck of the draw for Djokovic.

WOMEN (lines are current)

Venus Williams (+250)

She’s hoping to repeat after beating sister Serena in last year’s final. The good: she’s won two tournaments this year. The bad: she struggled mightily in the first two Grand Slams, the Aussie Open and French Open, losing in the first week both times. Which version of Venus will show up?

Serena Williams (+275)

She’s the anti-Venus, as she stinks up the joint in minor events but always seems to compete hard at the Grand Slams. Does that set her up better for success this week? Maybe if she doesn’t have to play her sister…

Maria Sharapova (+700)

History is on her side – a 2004 Wimbledon title – but health may not be. She’s on the road to recovery after missing 10 months with a nagging shoulder injury but there’s no guarantee that she’s totally healed.

Dinara Safina (+800)

The world No. 1 is tempting, offering much better value compared to the other favorite sports picks. Can she clear the mental hurdle and win the elusive Grand Slam? He crumbled against Svetlana Kuznetsova in the French Open final.

Ana Ivanovic (+900)

If your betting software picked her last year, you probably threw it in the trash, right?

Ivanovic was the No. 1 seed yet failed to reach the Wimbledon final.

She’s not at her best right now, yet to win this year, but the decreased pressure may help her sneak up on the field.

If you make MLB picks, you’ll know that philosophy has worked for the Texas Rangers all season.
