UFC 99

The Comeback will be held at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany (10 pm ET, PPV), the first time the Ultimate Fighting Championship has held an event in mainland Europe (after previous events in both the U.K. and Ireland).

Comeback is an apt title for UFC 99 as Franklin (26-4-0) is a former UFC middleweight champion and Silva (32-9-1) is a former PRIDE champion, and many Mixed Martial Arts observers feel the careers of both fighters will be on the line in this bout.

Franklin, a striker with some submissions, and Silva, a Muay Thai fighter with jiujitsu skills, agreed to face each other at a catchweight of 195 pounds.

Both fighters are coming off of losses – Franklin to Dan Henderson and Silva to Quinton Jackson, each in the 205-pound division.

Also on the UFC 99 card is Mirko “CroCop” Filipovic returning to take on Mostapha Al-turk in what will be Filipović’s first fight in the UFC since his unanimous-decision loss to Cheick Kongo at UFC 75 in 2007.

Filipovic is a heavy, -400 favorite against Al-turk (+300) in UFC 99 Odds at betED.com.

Other bouts at UFC 99 include Mike “Quick” Swick looking for his fourth straight win at 170 pounds against Ben “Killa B” Saunders, and Marcus “The Irish Hand Grenade” Davis battling Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy.

Swick is a -240 favorite while Saunders is a +190 underdog. Davis is a -225 favorite and Hardy a +175 dog.

Both Swick and Saunders are coming off devastating knockout wins last December, Swick stopping Jonathan Goulet in just 33 seconds, and Saunders employing downing Brandon Wolff in just one minute and 49 seconds.

Fresh off his 69-second knockout of Rory Markham last month at UFC 95, Hardy stated he wanted to fight the veteran Davis, who scored a three round decision win over Chris Lytle in his last bout at UFC 93 in January.
