Pre-season is nearly upon us, so for the next few weeks we encourage you to be checking out our FANTASY FOOTBALL DRAFT GUIDE for all your rankings and analysis for the upcoming league drafts that your going to be participating in.

Top 20 Fantasy Rankings – Quarterbacks

It’s time again for Dave B to rank the top position players in the NFL and I start with quarterbacks.

Fantasy drafts are fast approaching, so pay attention, read closely and let me know what you think.

These rankings do not include Brett Favre, who is playing his annual “maybe game”.  If he was committed, he’d be slotted somewhere around #7 or #8.

Bye weeks are listed in brackets after the players name and team.

1. Aaron Rodgers GBP (10) – Rodgers was the top Fantasy producer in the NFL last year and the Packers made sure that the offense’s glaring weakness was shored up. Yes, Aaron Rodgers might get some protection this year. He’s still got the same amazing weapons as well. Rodgers could be scary!

2. Drew Brees NOS (10) – Brees has two straight 34 touchdown seasons and has tossed for more than 4300 yards four straight years! Brees is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down in the least.

3. Peyton Manning IND (7) – Manning has averaged nearly 4200 yards and 30 touchdowns in the last three seasons. Last year, he passed for 4500 yards without Anthony Gonzalez. He will be typical Gold again this season.

4. Tony Romo  DAL (4) – Romo passed for almost 4500 yards last season and there is belief that Dallas may be better this year. If you miss out on the big three, Romo isn’t all that much of a drop-off.

5. Matt Schaub HOU (7) – Despite playing all 16 games last season, Schaub still seems like an injury risk. If healthy, he’ll be a top Fantasy producer.

6. Tom Brady NEP (5) – Some are down on Brady. He’s still the same guy and he’s another year removed from injury. He still has the same weapons and he needs to be better to hold off the hard charging Jets. Brady is looking for a new contract and will prove that he’s worth it!

7. Philip Rivers SDC (10) – Rivers will be without his top weapon Vincent Jackson for the first three games of the season but there are others ready to step up. He’s improved every year and with an easy schedule this year, he should be good for 4000 yards and 27-30 touchdowns.

8. Jay Cutler CHI (8) – After Rivers, there is a definite drop-off. Sure Cutler will get his yards and scores, but he will also get a ton of interceptions as well. He has upside but temper your expectations a little bit.

9. Kevin Kolb PHI (8) – The Kolb era is about to begin. Celek, Jackson and Maclin will attempt to make him look good. In his starts last season, Kolb looked like a viable Fantasy starter. If you are in the mood to gamble, Kolb might pay off.

10. Matt Ryan ATL (8) – He should be better this year but 3500 yards and 23-25 touchdowns are about where he should end up. He’s a good quarterback, but not a great Fantasy one.

11. Joe Flacco BAL (8) – ditto for Flacco. He does have a new toy (Anquan Boldin), but expectations are for him to manage the game, not win them by himself.

12. Donovan McNabb WAS (9) – McNabb instantly makes the Redskins a better team. Unfortunately he has Santana Moss and Devin Thomas to throw to. He does have Kyle Shanahan (who was part of Houston’s offensive coaching staff) to run his show, so he could put up some numbers but not the same ones he put up in Phili.

13. Eli Manning NYG (8) – Manning is one year removed from an enormous $100 million contract and needs to prove his worth. Steve Smith, Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham are a good receiving corp. and if the NY running game stalls like last year, Manning is going to have to throw a lot again.

14. Matthew Stafford DET (7) – Maybe a bit high but consider the presence of Calvin Johnson, newly acquired Nate Burleson and steady Tight End Tony Scheffler and realize that with a strong running game, the Lions appear OK on offense. They have a super easy schedule too.

15. Alex Smith SFO (9) – Smith finally emerged last season and so did the offense. Michael Crabtree is the real deal and Vernon Davis finally grew up. Still, something scares me about Smith! 3500 yards and 23-25 touchdowns seem like the ceiling for this guy.

16. Carson Palmer CIN (6) – It was only a few years ago that Palmer was one of the best passers in the NFL. Gone are the days of 4000 yards and 30 touchdowns. 3300 yards and 23-25 touchdowns now seems more in reach.

17. Chad Henne MIA (5) – Henne is a largely unproven passer who looked decent with Ted Ginn, Davone Bess and Greg Camarillo catching the ball last year. Brandon Marshall is an enormous upgrade – Henne could be a Fantasy surprise this year.

18. Vince Young TEN (9) – The Vince Yong bandwagon is completely full and thankfully, there’s no seat for me. Young turned the Titans around last season, but in no way is he a Fantasy play this year. His job is to give the ball to Chris Johnson – period!

19. Tarvaris Jackson MIN (4) – He probably won’t be a factor but until the a-hole Favre makes it official, a Vikings quarterback has to be on the list!

20. Jason Campbell OAK (10) – Campbell surely improves the Raiders, but that’s not saying a whole lot. Campbell has no receivers but I guess he’s used to that.

NOTE: My Top 20 is a cheat sheet designed for 2010 fantasy football drafts held today!

Basic Fantasy league points are factored into my rankings..enjoy!! And check back on a weekly basis for continuing updates.
