The two coaching staffs are quite familiar with each other. The Celtics became a defensive juggernaut when Doc Rivers hired Tom Thibodeau to run Boston’s stop unit. Thibodeau was known as a defensive genius around the league and his work with the Celtics was phenomenal and one of the main reasons they won the championship a few years ago. Thibodeau was a hot commodity to get a head coaching job during last season, and he was nabbed by the Bulls this year. Thibodeau returns to Boston for the second time tonight to face his former team. In the first meeting, the game went to overtime tied at 96 after the teams scored 105 points in the second half. However, the pace was slow and the 215 points scored really wasn’t indicative of how the game was played.

Thibodeau has intricate knowledge of what the Celtics want to run on offense. And since Thibodeau knows the Celtics’ offensive strengths, he will be able to game plan his defense to stop those areas. Boston head coach Doc Rivers knows that, and he’s also worried that Thibodeau knows too much. ‘He’s written down every ATO (after timeout play) that I’ve ever run,’ Rivers said. ‘We’ve run literally a hundred ATOs that nobody’s ever seen because we run them every day in practice. And he was writing them all down. I used to kid him and say that some day that’s going to come back and haunt me.’

Boston’s defense will also take this game personally because many media pundits think their success was due more to Thibodeau than the players themselves. ‘You can look at it both ways,’ Kendrick Perkins said. ‘Right now we’ve still got a great defense, and Thibodeau is not here. We definitely appreciate what coach Thibs did, but I think it’s pretty much the players who make the defense.’ There won’t be many easy buckets in this game as we expect both defenses to play with a lot of intensity tonight because of the familiarity of the coaches and players. That will lead to a low-scoring game between the Bulls and Celtics.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL Friday Night Betting
