Marquette vs. North Carolina
Play: 1 Unit North Carolina -4½-110

Marquette the #11 seed looks to keep its postseason run going Friday when it faces #2 seeded North Carolina in an East Regional semifinal in Newark, N.J. North Carolina should be able use its advantage under the boards to create opportunities on both ends of the court to win and cover the 4.5 points. Here’s why. Both teams can – and will – score in bunches, but the Tar Heels’ size advantage in the paint should prove decisive. UNC has won 16 of its last 18 games since freshman Kendall Marshall took over as the starting PG. He absolutly is playing his best ball of the year. Throw in Harrison Barnes,a potent offense that has totaled 188 points in two tournament games, and junior forward Tyler Zeller’s 15.2 points and you have a dynamic offense that Marquette just can’t match. Trends I like in this one include, Tar Heels are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games as a favorite of 0.5-6.5, are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 NCAA Tournament games, and are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 NCAA Tournament games as a favorite.

Arizona vs. Duke
Play: 1 Unit Arizona +8½+100

I won with Arizona against Texas and while it was considered a controversial win, the Wildcats deserve to be here. The Blue Devils are as healthy as they have been all season but I feel this line is slightly inflated simply because it is Duke, the reigning NCAA Champions. Duke is favored by only three points less here than it was against Michigan whose RPI was over 30 spots lower than that of the Wildcats. Arizona came into the tournament with an RPI of 20th and that does not equate to such a big line. According to AZ Central, the Blue Devils looked a little out of sync offensively against the Wolverines and that’s not surprising considering Kyrie Irving missed three months. Roles were established when Irving was out, and Nolan Smith became used to having the ball in his hands on almost every possession. With Irving back, there has been a subtle change in roles and that is why the insertion of a solid player such as Irving back into the lineup could be disrupting Duke’s chemistry. The Wildcats possess a superstar in Derrick Williams, the Pac Ten Player of the Year, they play great defense and they control the glass. As a matter of fact, the Wildcats finished as the best rebounding team in the Pac Ten and have posted a 22-1 record when they win the battle of the boards. Winning the battle of the boards won’t be easy but the same can be said for Duke which normally wins that battle as well. I feel the Wildcats have the edge down low overall and that is a big key to victory. The Wildcats are playing closer to home here which is an edge as Southern California is home to six Wildcats players, including Derrick Williams, Solomon Hill and Jordin Mayes. Arizona head coach Sean Miller has turned this program around and he has been a big-time tournament coach going 27-13 ATS in all of his tournament games. The Wildcats are now 13-4 ATS after a game where they covered the spread this season while going 4-1 ATS in their last five games as an underdog. – NBA Betting

Thursday CBB Betting

In CBB news today No. 10 Florida State’s 71-57 upset over second-seeded Notre Dame on Sunday night made NCAA Tournament history, with a record four double-digit seeds advancing to this year’s Sweet 16. The Seminoles joined No. 11 Virginia Commonwealth, which knocked off No. 3 Purdue 92-74, No. 11 Marquette, a 66-62 winner over No. 3 Syracuse, and No. 12 Richmond, which defeated No. 13 Morehead State on Saturday, in making the Sweet 16. The previous record for the number of double-digit seeds to advance to the regional semifinals was three in 2002 and 2008. Unlike past seasons, VCU had to win three games to make the Sweet 16 in this year’s expanded field of 68. The Sweet 16 begins play Thursday and will feature VCU vs. Florida State, Kansas vs. Richmond, Butler vs. Wisconsin, BYU vs. Florida, Ohio State vs. Kentucky, Marquette vs. North Carolina, Duke vs. Arizona and Connecticut vs. San Diego State. Thursday NBA Betting

The NBA’s two-game schedule for Thursday has Minnesota at Dallas and New Orleans at Utah. IN NBA news today Charlotte Bobcats coach Paul Silas told the Charlotte Observer that it is a “distinct possibility” that leading scorer Stephen Jackson is shut down for the remainder of the season. Attorneys for Carlos Boozer filed a lawsuit alleging that Claudio Osorio “maliciously” squandered a $1 million investment on the basketball player’s behalf, the Chicago Sun-Times reported on Thursday. San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich believes that star forward Tim Duncan will miss “four or five games” and expects to have him back for the start of the playoffs, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

Thursday NHL Hockey Betting

There are nine games on the NHL’s schedule for Thursday, with Atlanta at the Islanders, Ottawa at the Rangers, Pittsburgh at Philadelphia, Edmonton at St. Louis, Anaheim at Nashville, Toronto at Colorado, Columbus at Phoenix, San Jose at Los Angeles, and Montreal at Boston. IN NHL news today Eric Staal did not skate during Thursday’s practice, although the Carolina Hurricanes captain expects to play in the team’s home-and-home series against the Southeast Division-rival Tampa Bay Lightning this weekend. Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin has cut short his planned healing time. Originally scheduled to be sidelined 10 days, Ovechkin skated for the first time on Wednesday and feels as though he can return to the ice in five to seven days. Curtis McElhinney likes his chances in Canada’s capital city. An unrestricted free agent this summer, McElhinney told the Ottawa Citizen on Thursday that he would like to remain with the Ottawa Senators.
