The second half of the 2010 NFL season featured a couple of shocking upsets, some incredible individual performances, and few teams asserting themselves as the early contenders for this year’s Super Bowl. There are three teams in the league at 7-2; New England and New York (Jets) in the AFC and Atlanta in the NFC, but there are nine more teams waiting in the wings at 6-3.

Five of the eight divisions have two teams tied at the top with identical records and in the other three just one game separates first place from second.

With seven games left to play it this could end up being one of the tightest playoff races in years.

The following is a brief look at each matchup in Week 11 along with the current pointspread as supplied by SportsInteraction.com.

Thursday, Nov. 18

8:20 P.M. Chicago at Miami (-1 ½)

Over/Under: 39 ½

Chicago is right in the thick of things at 6-3, but you have to wonder how far they can go with an offense that is ranked in the bottom third of the league in every major category. Tyler Thigpen will most likely get the start at quarterback for Miami with injuries to both Chad Pennington and Chad Henne.

Sunday, Nov. 21

1:00 P.M. Detroit at Dallas (-7)
Over/Under: 46 ½

Detroit has lost seven games this season by an average of just 5.3 points. The Lions only double-digit loss was to Minnesota; 24-10. Dallas quarterback John Kitna had a career day in the Cowboys 33-20 win over the Giants by completing 13-of-22 attempts for 327 yards and three TD’s.

Arizona at Kansas City (-7 ½)
Over/Under: 44

Arizona is still very much in the NFC West division title race at 3-6, but with an offense and defense that is ranked 31st in the league you have to question how many more games the Cardinals will actually win. Kansas City is 2-3 in its last five games and very close to letting its promising start become a distant memory.

Green Bay (-3)at Minnesota
Over/Under: 44

Green Bay has 10 players, five of them starters, on injured reserve but are still ranked ninth in average points per game and first in average points allowed. QB Brett Favre could have his favorite target back for this game if Minnesota decides to activate WR Sidney Rice off the physically unable to perform list (PUP).

Baltimore (-9 ½) at Carolina
Over/Under: 37

Baltimore has lost three games by a combined 13 points and won its six games by a combined 44 points. The Ravens are averaging 21.8 points a game on offense, while giving up an average of 18.3 points a game on defense. Carolina has only managed to score a total of 104 points in nine games.

Cleveland at Jacksonville (-2)
Over/Under: 42 ½

Cleveland is 3-6 but has only given up 10 more points than it has scored; 172 points scored verse 182 points allowed. Jacksonville is 5-4 but has given up a total of 250 points while only scoring a total of 196 points.

Oakland at Pittsburgh (-7 ½)
Over/Under: 41 ½

Oakland is tied for first in the AFC West at 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the division, but is 1-3 on the road. Pittsburgh’s defense is ranked fifth in points allowed; giving up an average of 18 points per game, however the Steelers have given up a total of 76 points in their three losses this season. Buffalo at Cincinnati (-5)
Over/Under: 44

Buffalo will most likely be without RB C.J. Spiller and DE Spencer Johnson for this game. Both are nursing hamstring injuries. Cincinnati lost its kicker Mike Nugent for the rest of the season after he injured his knee in the Bengals loss to Indianapolis.

Washington at Tennessee (-6)
Over/Under: 43 ½

Washington needs to quickly erase the memory of Monday night’s 59-28 beatdown at the hands of Philadelphia to keep its season from completely falling apart. Tennessee’s offense is ranked 31st in passing offense and ninth in rushing. The Titans’ defense is ranked 25th against the pass and 11th against the run.

Houston at N.Y. Jets (-7)
Over/Under: 45 ½

Houston’s defense is ranked dead last overall and 31st in points allowed; giving up an average of 28.6 points per game. New York’s defense is ranked fifth overall and third in points allowed; giving up an average of 16.7 points per game.

4:05 P.M. Atlanta (-3) at St. Louis
Over/Under: 42 ½

Atlanta currently has the best record in the NFC at 7-2 and is a perfect 5-0 at home. The Falcons also have wins over both New Orleans and Tampa Bay in their division. St. Louis is 4-5, but is only one game in back of Seattle in the NFC West. The Rams are 4-1 at home and 0-4 on the road.

Tampa Bay at San Francisco (-3)
Over/Under: 41 ½

Tampa Bay’s offense is ranked 21st overall and its defense is ranked 22nd. The Buccaneers are averaging 20.9 points per game and giving up an average of 22.9 points. San Francisco’s offense is ranked 22nd overall and its defense is ranked 16th.

Seattle at New Orleans (-11 ½)
Over/Under: 44

Seattle leads the NFC West with a record of 5-4, but the Seahawks have been outscored by a total of 43 points on the road. New Orleans is 6-3 and has actually been outscored by a total of one point in five home games this season.

Indianapolis at New England (-3)
Over/Under: 50 ½

Indianapolis QB Peyton Manning only managed to throw for 185 yards and no TD’s with a depleted receiving corps in the Colts 23-17 win over Cincinnati on Sunday. New England QB Tom Brady threw for 350 yards and three TD’s in the Patriots 39-26 win over Pittsburgh.

8:20 P.M. N.Y. Giants at Philadelphia (-3)
Over/Under: 49

Philadelphia QB Michael Vick helped generate 592 yards of offense in Monday night’s win over the Redskins but he will have a much tougher challenge this week going up against the Giants’ second ranked defense. New York is 6-3 overall and 3-1 on the road this season. The Giants have outscored their opponents by 64 points in their three road wins.

Monday, Nov. 22

8:30 P.M. Denver at San Diego (-9 ½)
Over/Under: 50

Denver is 3-6 but has the fifth ranked offense in the league. The Broncos rolled up 484 yards of total offense including 433 passing yards in their 49-29 win over the Chiefs. San Diego hopes to have WR’s Legedu Naanee and Malcom Floyd back for this game but TE Antonio Gates will most likely be a game-time decision.
