By: Michael Alexander

It’s the start of the New Year and with that the signal that we are now getting to some of the best College Bowl Picks matchups of this season rendition of the “playoffs”. There has been some mild surprises thus far but none that I would consider an huge surprise. There’s been some exciting matchups and some not so exciting (just look at that yawner yesterday between Pitt and Oregon St). So, with the majority of the Bowl Picks history it gives us an opportunity to take advantage of some of the biggest contests remaining. So without further banter let’s take a look at what is on tap for the New Year today and see what angles and trends could get us a profitable College Bowl Pick:

OUTBACK BOWL – IOWA vs. SOUTH CAROLINA

There’s some good betting trends in the Outback Bowl games for underdogs ATS, the Big Ten ATS, and OVER the total, with all three angles owning a 4-2 mark since 2002. If you look a little further back underdogs are 7-2 ATS in the last nine Outback Bowl games. South Carolina won this game, both SU & ATS, back in ʼ01 & ʼ02.

GATOR BOWL – CLEMSON vs. NEBRASKA

The ACC has had a recent tough go in this Bowl losing the last two Gator Bowl Pick games outright, but the ACC is 5-2 SU & 7-2 ATS in this bowl series. Clemson is the last ACC team to lose ATS however, in two straight appearances. For OVER players the total is on a 4-0 run.

CAPITAL ONE BOWL – MICHIGAN STATE vs. GEORGIA

The Big Ten has won four straight Capital One Bowl Picks games, both outright and ATS, all as the underdog. Georgia is making their third appearance since ʼ93 in this Bowl Game and is 2-0 SU & ATS. Michigan State played in this Bowl Game back in 2000, beating Florida 37-34 as a 3-point underdog.

ROSE BOWL – PENN STATE vs. USC

USC comes into this one making their fifth appearance in the last six years. They are 3-1 SU & ATS in the prior four. However, against the Big Ten, the Trojans are 4-0 SU & ATS in the Rose Bowl since 1996, winning by 17.3 PPG. Overall, the Big Ten is 1-5 ATS in its last six trips to Pasadena. For Totaly players the OVER is a perfect 4-0 the L4 Rose Bowls.

ORANGE BOWL – VIRGINIA TECH vs. CINCINNATI

There was a time that taking the favorite in this College Bowl Pick was a very profitable endeavor however Orange Bowl underdogs are 3-2 SU & 4-1 ATS in the last five games. The ACC has struggled as a conference, going 1-6 SU & ATS in its last seven Orange Bowls.
