You could argue that right now is the best possible time to make your World Series futures bet. Enough of the season has passed that you have a strong sense of each team’s identity. But there’s also just enough time left in the season that a team or two could still be undervalued.
Our first post-All-Star-break edition of the power rankings shows that some real slugfests are shaping up for the stretch run in every division.
We continue our Capperspicks.com fantasy site reviews with Draftstreet.com, a fantasy sports site that offers daily and weekly leagues for the NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL.
MLB news: Giants acquire Jeff Keppinger
The San Francisco Giants acquired some help for the stretch run yesterday, picking up infielder Jeff Keppinger from the Houston Astros for minor-league pitchers Henry Sosa and Jason Stoffel.
NFL news: Peyton Manning won’t be ready for camp
Peyton Manning’s recovery from offseason neck surgery is moving slowly enough that he won’t be ready for the Indianapolis Colts’ training camp should it start at the end of the month.
NHL news: Lightning extend Steven Stamkos
The Steven Stamkos saga is over. The man with more goals than any other NHL player over the last two seasons is staying in Tampa Bay.
Are you ready for the NFL’s free agent frenzy? The lockout appears set to end any day now and, rumor hasn’t, the free agency NFL gambling crapshoot will begin on July 28. It should be madness.
The Milwaukee Brewers need to get hot in a hurry. The competition has become too fierce in the National League Central to allow for a slump.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are hardly relevant in the National League West race at this point of the year but, hey, it’s Clayton Kershaw versus Tim Lincecum.
NBA news: Dwight Howard wanted more say in Magic trades, may play overseas
Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard was in the news for multiple reasons yesterday. First off, Superman told a radio station that he had wanted a bigger say in the trades Orlando made during the 2010-11 season.
MLB news: Roy Halladay leaves start with heat exhaustion;
Roy Halladay isn’t indestructible after all. Who knew? The Philadelphia Phillies ace left his start against the Chicago Cubs Monday with heat exhaustion.
NFL news: Cardinals eyeing Kolb for Rodgers-Cromartie swap?
The Arizona Cardinals are still hoping to acquire quarterback Kevin Kolb from the Philadelphia Eagles once NFL free agency (plus trading) kicks in, which could be July 28.
Reportedly, the Cards want to offer cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie straight-up for Kolb.
But will that be enough? The Eagles are thought to want a high draft pick as well.
Also, DRC has fallen out of favor in Arizona.
As Phoenix radio host mike Jurecki put it, “[2011 first-round pick] Patrick Peterson is a better football player than DRC right now.
He’s not afraid to hit.” [soliloquy id=”82219″]
