Headline: Red Hot Penguins Host Ice Cold Capitals Thursday Night
The Pittsburgh Penguins, winner of four straight games return home Thursday night to take on the most disappointing team in the NHL – the Washington Capitals. While the Pens impressively avenged a loss to the New York Islanders last time out, the Capitals come into Thursday’s game off a loss to another one of the bottom tier NHL teams – the Toronto Maple Leafs.
NHL Power Rankings – February 4
Three weeks are gone in the NHL’s abbreviated season and my how things have changed. With 3-4 games for each of the NHL clubs per week, every two weeks will be fluid as can be in Dave B’s bi-weekly Power Rankings.
The 72nd Pebble Beach Pro Am goes this weekend – defending champion Phil Mickelson arrives on quite a high after an absolute gem at the Waste Management last week. Pebble Beach is the shortest course on the PGA TOUR measuring just 6,816 yards.

The Montreal Canadiens will attempt to continue their stellar early season play at home on Wednesday night when they take on the Boston Bruins, a team that they have had all sorts of trouble with the past couple of seasons.
Headline: Lightning Look to Continue Recent Dominance of Flyers Tuesday Night
The highest scoring team in the NHL the Tampa Bay Lightning head out on the road after a successful five game home stand when they travel to Philadelphia to take on a Flyers team that is the polar opposite of Tampa in the offensive end. While the Lightning are tops in the NHL with an average of 4.88 goals per game, the Flyers are near the bottom of the NHL scoring just 2.33 goals per game.
Headline: Struggling Stars In Colorado to Take On Surging Avs
The Dallas Stars head out on the road Monday night to take on the Colorado Avalanche in what is a fairly light night on the NHL’s abbreviated schedule. The Avalanche have yet to taste defeat in their three games on home ice so far in this young season while the Stars have been absolutely dreadful on the road losing five straight away from home and having been shut out twice already this year away from American Airlines Center.
The UFC will commence with its second Pay-per-view card this Saturday from Las Vegas. The main event promises to be a classic with two Champions vying for the Featherweight strap. The card is littered with former champs, established contenders and a few names to keep your eyes on in the coming years.
Super Bowl XLVII – Bro-Bowl Promises Plenty of Intrigue
Super Bowl XLVII is less than a week away and it certainly has its share of storylines – all of which will be beaten into your heads between now and game time. There’s the Harbaugh boys, there’s the two QBs hoping to take the step toward elitism, there’s the Ray Lewis angle and there’s the two immensely talented defenses playing in this game. .

The New York Rangers close out a three game home stand Thursday when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins who have won five straight in the series including their last three games at MSG. The Penguins enter Thursday’s game having lost three of their last four games while the Rangers have shrugged off a slow start to win three of their last four.
Scottsdale, Arizona hosts the 2013 Waste management Open this weekend – one of the most fan-friendly crowd pleasing events on TOUR. TPC of Scottsdale is one of the few courses on TOUR that doesn’t favor any one style of play – leads a gained and lost here at the drop of a hat which adds to the intrigue.

The NHL’s best team so far, the Chicago Blackhawks begin a six game road trip Wednesday night when they pay visit to the revamped Minnesota Wild. While the Hawks have been off since their sixth straight win to start the season since Sunday, the weary Wild will be playing their third game in four nights after dispatching the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 just last night.
