2015 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Odds & Prop Predictions

NFL Football – DROTY Prop Bets

We analyzed the 2015 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year betting market already and now it’s time to take a look at the latest odds in the market to win the 2015 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

NFL Handicapping Insight

Before we can predict which players have the best chance to win the award this season, we need to analyze previous years to find out which defensive positions stand the best chance at winning the NFL Defensive ROY award.

In the last ten years – eight linebackers and two defensive tackles have won the award.

With that being said – linebackers often dominate the market. It’s easy to see why, LB’s do a bit of everything on the field in the NFL, including rack up tackles, sacks, plus potentially interceptions and fumble recoveries.

However, anytime a rookie defensive tackle can rack up close to ten sacks, they stand a good chance at stealing the spotlight from the linebackers, which has been evident when Ndamukong Suh and Aaron Donald won the award.

2015 NFL Defensive ROY Predictions

  • Best Bet: Vic Beasley (ATL) +900

This market is an absolute crapshoot – there’s only so much handicapping we can do when it comes to rookies and when it comes to players on defense, it’s even tougher. I’m strictly going with my gut and betting on Vic Beasley.

Skills plays a role in my selection, but opportunity is the biggest factor.

Vic Beasley was drafted 8th overall by the Atlanta Falcons and he fills a glaring weakness. Beasley will be expected to provide the Falcons with a much-needed pass rush in 2015 – something severely lacking in recent seasons.

Beasley is insanely quick off of the edge and he’s going to get his sacks in Atlanta. He’s the best candidate, especially since Dante Fowler Jr. (#3 Overall Pick) is out for the season. If Beasley stays healthy, he’ll have a great rookie year.

Who are some of the other top contenders to win the 2015 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award?

Leonard Williams

Leonard Williams (+600) is a great option. The Jets drafted the defensive end 6th overall – he was the second defensive player off the board in this year’s NFL draft. Williams is believed to be a sure-thing DE that’ll play all three downs.

Williams has a great future, but will he put up good enough rookie numbers to win the award? If he can get off the line and come close to 10 sacks, Williams will be a top contender, but those are lofty goals for the big man.

Eric Kendricks

Eric Kendricks (+400) is getting a lot of love in Minnesota and he’s expected to start at MLB, but he’ll likely be taken out on passing downs. Kendricks will be used to plug running lanes and he’ll likely be among rookie leaders in tackles.

However, unless Kendricks gets a couple INT’s and a few sacks, he isn’t going to win the award with tackles alone.

Stephone Anthony

Stephone Anthony (+400) is favored to win the award with Kendricks, but both are priced too short for me. Anthony isn’t going to wow you with spectacular plays, but he’s gritty, hard-hitting and will lay his body into the opposition.

Anthony is another LB who will be given a chance to play in New Orleans and Rob Ryan is a great coordinator. He may fly under the radar, but he’ll likely be among the defensive rookies with the best stat lines at the end of the regular season.

Landon Collins

Landon Collins (+1200) is getting lots of love too in the market. The safety was drafted by the Giants and will become an immediate starter. He’ll have the chance to shine, but his play style will end up being boom or bust.

[dfads params=’groups=63752&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Collins doesn’t mind gambling on plays, but that means he’ll have a great chance to fill the stat sheet. He’s actually great at stopping the run and will rack up tackles, including tackles for a loss, but can he cover NFL receivers?

If he can get a few INT’s and return one or two for a TD, he may shock everyone and win the award. Trends say to avoid defensive backs, but Collins may be worth making an exception. He has all of the opportunity in the world.
