The UNLV Rebels<\/strong>\u00a0have made a huge\u00a0coaching gamble. The team has hired\u00a0Tony Sanchez from Bishop Gorman.<\/p>\n That’s right. Bishop Gorman — the\u00a0high school<\/em>. MWC\u00a02015-2016 College Football Preview – UNLV<\/a><\/b> High school systems\u00a0have\u00a0have been a solid\u00a0place to find\u00a0assistants throughout the years, but even that’s always a bit hit or miss.<\/p>\n [dfads params=’groups=63738&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n Former coach Bobby Hauck took this team to\u00a0one bowl game\u00a0and four 10-loss years\u00a0in four years, so a change was obviously in order.<\/p>\n Now it’s time to see if the gamble\u00a0will pay off, as this program is already considered one of the worst in the nation in terms of football.<\/p>\n We’ll be blunt right out of the gate here. There aren’t many strengths on this roster at this juncture.<\/p>\n Luckily for the Rebels, we can identify wide receiver as one of their silver linings.<\/p>\n [dfads params=’groups=66501&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n Devonte Boyd caught a team-best 65 passes last season for a total of 980 yards. Those numbers resulted in four touchdowns, and the 6’1″, 175-pound sophomore will be back looking to build upon the success he had a year ago.<\/p>\n This team needs to focus on accuracy in the passing game this season. In 2014, Blake Decker tossed 18 interceptions to just 15 touchdowns. He did finish the year with the most total offense in the Mountain West, but that hardly made up for throwing more completions to the opposite team than he did for scores to his own teammates.<\/p>\n Also on offense, the Rebels will look to rebuild an O-Line that has last Brett Boyko and Robert Waterman — both four-year starters.<\/p>\n Defensively, Kent Baer, the team’s newest defensive coordinator, will have a challenge ahead of him. Not only was this group 111th in points allowed last season (38.5 per contest), but the D-Line is young and needs some serious coaching to improve upon that awful number from a year ago.<\/p>\n Tony\u00a0Sanchez won six straight state titles at Bishop Gorman. That’s a strong track record, but don’t expect the high school coach to come in and immediately turn around a program that should finish dead last in its division this season.<\/p>\n [dfads params=’groups=63739&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n In six of its\u00a0last nine seasons, UNLV has lost double-digit contests.\u00a0The schedule isn’t going to help with this year’s hopes, meaning at least 10 losses should be on the horizon once again.<\/p>\n Check out our Updated College Football Odds<\/a>.<\/b>
