Arizona Wildcats<\/strong> fans have undoubtedly felt confidence\u00a0since\u00a0Rich Rodriguez made his move to the program. And rightfully so.<\/p>\n In just\u00a0his third season with the team, Rodriguez and Arizona went\u00a0to the Pac-12 title game in the program’s\u00a0first 10-win season (and the first ranked campaign\u00a0since 1998).<\/p>\n Head Coach: Rich Rodriguez<\/strong> At this point in the offseason, with spring camp behind us, the Wildcats\u00a0are a top-30 team in terms of 2016 National Championship odds.<\/p>\n They’re 29th at 100\/1 odds, placing them between the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets\u00a0(100\/1) — 30th\u00a0— and the Wisconsin Badgers\u00a0(75\/1) — 28th.<\/p>\n [dfads params=’groups=63738&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n Could Arizona be a contender\u00a0once again? With Rich Rod leading the way, it certainly seems possible.<\/p>\n First on the list of strengths is\u00a0the team’s\u00a0speed (not to mention\u00a0depth) at receiver. All but one of the team’s receiving core is\u00a0coming back, as DaVonte’ Neal has been moved to cornerback.<\/p>\n Not only are the Wildcats deep at receiver, but they’re diverse as well. Cayleb Jones and David Richards represent the big, physical wideouts. If you’re looking for speed,\u00a0Samajie Grant, Trey Griffey and Nate Phillips are your guys. Each of these guys will be targets\u00a0for\u00a0Anu Solomon in different situations.<\/p>\n And by the way, Solomon was excellent as a\u00a0redshirt freshman\u00a0last season.<\/p>\n [dfads params=’groups=66501&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n The Wildcats will\u00a0also have\u00a0two solid\u00a0running backs, including\u00a0Nick Wilson. Wilson tallied 1,375 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2014, and he’ll be complemented by senior Jared Baker.<\/p>\n Special teams also deserves recognition here.\u00a0Punter Drew Riggleman was\u00a0fourth in yardage in 2014, and kicker Casey Skowron is\u00a0reliable when Arizona comes up short in the red zone.<\/p>\n Finally, we’d be remiss not to mention Scooby Wright. The junior is a Bednarik, Lombardi and Nagurski award winner, and he was the nation’s\u00a0leader in tackles last season.<\/p>\n As solid\u00a0as Wright is, and will continue to be, the junior\u00a0isn’t a one-man show — nobody is on defense. That was clear on occasion\u00a0in 2014,\u00a0as his statistics\u00a0couldn’t keep the Arizona\u00a0from allowing too many big plays. The concerns\u00a0start up front. There needs to be more of a prominent\u00a0pass rush, as there wasn’t enough\u00a0production from the DL, allowing opposing quarterbacks to target deep options.<\/p>\n The Wildcats’\u00a0best defensive segment\u00a0was their\u00a0secondary in 2014, but they can only do so much\u00a0without\u00a0support up front.<\/p>\n Back on offense,\u00a0red-zone efficiency is where this team must improve — emphasis on must<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n This team was\u00a080 percent when it came to success in that area. The\u00a0rate of only scoring TDs\u00a0on 33 of 60 trips was just\u00a086th in the country.<\/p>\n Arizona is\u00a0hoping to address\u00a0this by getting the most out of\u00a0their skill players, including showing more love to tight end.<\/p>\n The Wildcats have found success since Rodriguez took over. The team\u00a0has won 26 contests\u00a0in his\u00a0first three seasons, which just so happens to be the most of any three-year stretch\u00a0in program history\u00a0history.<\/p>\n Regardless of how many wins this team earns this season, fans should be excited that the team is certainly in contention for a Pac-12 South title.<\/p>\n [dfads params=’groups=63739&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n The problem here is that going 12 weeks without a bye is hardly a recipe for success. That’s part of the reason we’re going single-digit wins in 2015.<\/p>\n The good news is that nine victories seems to be a worst-case scenario here.
